Liszt`s transcription of `Tanhauser`

Yeah I agree with the other big headed guys around here-none of the pieces that have been mentioned so far are actually that hard to play. La Campanella is quite a short piece and so are all of the chopin etudes. The hard pieces are La Valse by Ravel and Mephisto Walze No. 1 by Liszt.

nadir..im currently learning that prokofiev toccata..it is so much fun...have u learned the whole piece yet?..anyway..yea piano guy ur right about la campanella and the Chopin etudes..but I wouldnt consider Liszt`s memphisto waltz among, lets say, the top 5 hardest solo piano pieces ever...i havent really tried playing the hard parts of that piece so actually "i" have no say in this..but many will agree that it isnt as hard as Jeux d`eau ...Gaspard de la Nuit..or Islamey..

What about that Scriabin one where the the left hand alone, with both hands, is a concert piece, this is it.

Op.9, No.2: Nocturne, I don`t know about the likes of you but it looks farcically hard, I`m only 15 though.

It`s not really a piano piece, and the second page is from a different work, there`s only 1 page of it.

If you want a hard piece that sound cool as hell as well, try the 3rd movement of Moonlight Sonata (the 2nd movement is the popular 1).

`Piano Sonata No 14 In C Sharp Minor, Opus 27`

you can`t tell by looking at or listening what the hardest piece is. Some *black* pieces are remarkably easy, while ones that look easy are hard. for example, Bach is transparent, but to play it well is difficult. I went to a piano competition as a listener and the players played prokofiev, beethoven sonatas, chopin pieces all brilliantly but there was not a half decent prelude and fugue!
i know for flute ( i am not really a pianist, about RCM gr 9 level, I have a bmus in flute/theory), the fast and furious pieces that sound brilliant are usually easier than the slow pieces that sound easy. Plus for me, I am a technical player on flute with a lot of dexterity. I can play anything tecnicall so the fast pieces are not a problem, but the musicality of slower ones is more challenging.

speed does not necessarily equal difficulty
