it means your level 4 standard out of 8. grade 1 being the lowest and 8 the highest grade... its quite logical, the higher the grade the better you are at playing

ok.. you find out your grade cuz you do examinations. if you have a teacher you can do these tests but if your teaching yourself then i dont think you can do it. cuz the teacher organises an examiner and you start at grade 1 and then every year you can do a test to see if you pass to go on to the next lvl.

ok, but what`s the difficulty, let`s say in grade 4. Name a few pieces from that grade, because i wasn`t brought up with that kind of system

I don´t know where Hans is from and Eric is probably from USA?! Anyway, my point is: is this grade system universal? I´m from Finland and I´ve never heard about this type of system.

Yap. It`s universal. That is if u take exams from a universally recognised board. Ie :ABRSM/ Royal Schools, Guildhall, London College, AMEB, Trinity and so on.
But bear in mind that Grade 1 to 8 are only student grades. Then thereafter PC (Performance Cert), Various Diplomas in performance(depends on the board yr taking), Licientiate, Fellowship, DMUs, H Mus etc. This applies for theory also. Amustcl, Lmustcl, FMustcl etc.

I was also wondering about the grades thing. I would like to know where I am, but wasn`t taught that way.

In Canada the RCM rules and we have ten grades. As well as an ARCT grade (teachers/performers)

We have a sylabbus that lists every classical piece that fits into categories.

So 1-8 grades isn`t universal
Just out of curiosity what grade level is the pathetique sonata in the 1-8 grade system?

I just got a new teacher, and she uses the RCM test I think, could you explain that in a little more detail. I`d like to have an idea what this is about and how it compares to other systems?

Hey, If anyone really knows the grading system, just wanted to know if anyone could judge what I might be. I can play Rondo Alla Turca fluently(The whole, multi-page song, not the 8notes mini version), And All That Jazz, the "Raindrop Prelude" and I`m starting Aufshwung. If anywone knows it would be a great favor since I can use my grade level to find more songs on my level (Most are too hard or too easy that I find) Just reply to smart_one190@comcast.net Thank you a LOT

If you can`t grade me just tell me where to get grading materials. It`s just as good
