This site is evidently intended for piano, but do you think it would be useful for other types of instruments as well? www.beautifulsimplicitymusic.wordpress.com. What do you think about the idea of a free, online kind of supplementary piano course?

I have a hard time recommending anything that I have not used, but I will say this: Casio is considered a good brand, but Yamaha is probably the best. I would not even touch the other brands. NEVER get an unweighted keyboard if you can help it. Also, while 88 keys doesn't sound like a big deal, you almost certainly want a full-length keyboard for any kind of 'real' playing. After that, it's a matter of price and the perks you want. Yamaha, weighted key, pick your price. MIDI capabilities can be really nice. Also, read lots of reviews on each. Don't just read the good reviews; read the bad reviews. Hopefully this is helpful!

I think free resources aimed at beginners would definitely be useful. We need more of that online!

Also, @dollyt, I agree. Yamaha is definitely the best brand out there! I wouldn't consider Casio at all. They are nowhere near Yamaha's level.

I bought a Yamaha DGX-650 recently. So glad I did. It was this review that I came across that got me interested in it, actually. Just thought I'd share. https://digitalpianoreviews.uk/best-digital-piano-under-1000-top-3/
