So which do you prefer... a piano stool or bench?

It depends on the occassion. If it`s for normal practice, the bench. If for a concert, then definately the stool. The piano stool looks more classy to me.

I like them both, but listen to this novel idea. Like, the other day, my little brother was using my piano bench for something, so I took this stool from the kitchen, and it put me like slightly higher than the keyboard, but my feet were like flat on the floor, so I was sort of sitting with my legs somewhat apart, but I was sitting at the back of the stool, which put me like, leaning over the keyboard. I think it was great posture because you`re like leaning over it so you have more power and you don`t strain your shoulders. Try it out and see what you think...I`m not crazy.

i dont really understand you.. but.. anyways i used to use a piano bench until i started to practice alot and it became very tiring trying to sit up straight so i have recently begun using a computer chair and its much more comfortble although i dont think i should be using it.hehe

Better be a bench. The bench is wider than the stool, and if you suddenly shift your weight to one side of the stool, you`ll topple over.

...But if you`re a Glenn Gould impersonator...well you can buy his chair. You`d better be rich.

Glenn Gould...huh! That`s funny. Well, yr right abt. the piano stool...it topples real easily. But I prefer it in terms of looks appeal on the stage. But the bench will definately give u more stability. And I agree with Eric. Actually the computer chair really grooves. It is sooooo comfortable...and perfectly ok to use it for occassional practice in yr own studio. U know why pianists go to all the fuss abt. the bench? Just like a violinists to his shoulder rest? Caz it is hell boring and absolutely tedious to sit there for hours and try to work out yr notes. Yap! It`s tough to practice piano. So, go ahead, make yrself as relaxed and comfortable as u can
