Depressing? How can any music be depressing; for it is such a miracle that humans can feel emotions which are so complex, in that they are verbally incommunicable, and then take the liberty to communicate them through a higher form of communication: the arts, music particularly. If you ask me, those first few melancholy cello notes in Brahms` Trio for Piano, Clarinet, and Cello actually make me cry with joy...but that`s just an example, since that`s the peice to which I`m listening right now. So uh...that`s weird. Depressing. Hmm. Just a bit weird. And the second criterion...loud? We do not use the word "loud" to describe musical dynamics; only when we intend to make it known that the music is being played at an obnoxious volume level. We use the word "powerful," or something to that effect, instead of "loud," for future reference; we`d say that the airplane taking off is "loud"...not the end of Ravel`s Bolero. So in conclusion, I would recommend to you, "Riding in a Rickshaw" in John Thompson`s Easiest Piano Course...Book 2, I believe. If that does not suit you, come back and ask again, with more adequate criteria. We have a lot of smart people who come to this forum, but I`m not sure that they`ll be able to interpret what "like depressing/ like loud" piano music means. Regards, Jackie.

1. Rach`s Vocalise
2. Rach`s Nocturne
3. Vaughan William`s Song Cycle On Wenlock Edge.
4. Brahms Rhapsody in F# min
5. Brahms Intermezzo in A major op. 118
6. Brahms piano Concerto in Bflat major ( I think that this is really quite depressing ... and certainly wistful also. )
Or maybe u should really try Beethoven. Since it`s emotions and volume that u want.

You cannot feel joy without knowing sorry, Jackie. They define each other. If you have never felt depressed listening to any music, than I suspect that you`ve not experienced the joy you speak of at it`s full potential. As for the word `loud`, though not clearly defined in the question, there is more than one meaning when we describe art of any kind. For instance, paintings are often considered `loud` if thier messages are bold and forceful. Same with music. I`m not saying you`re wrong... we all have our own opinions. However, if you truly love music as much as your message implies, I would think you`d want to help nurture others` love for it as well with a more open mind instead of insulting them and turning them away until they properly form their questions to your liking.
