I have noticed that when listening to different versions of Fur Elise by Beethoven, that different pianists play the last section (where there is a whole load of A`s in the bass) differently. Some play it as if it is in 3/4 time.. stressing the first note of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd beat.. (ONE two THREE four FIVE six) others play it in two groups of three (ONE two three FOUR five six). Has anyone else noticed this, and does anyone konw which is the correct way to play it?
thanks

I`m not sure, I haven`t really listened that hard to it. But in the sheet music I have, it has the constant fingering `1, 2, 3, 2, 1` - I`m assuming that because the thumb is strong the will be emphasis on every `1`, but I`m not too sure. Maybe it`s something that`s up to the player.

each pianist has their own style of playing and lots of people have different ways of playing fur elise. there isn`t any right or wrong way to play. personally, i quieten the a`s in the bass very slightly and then slowly make it louder - crescendo, i think. but that`s up to you.

if you follow the notes exactly it will sound like a MIDI file. Personal interpretation and playing style is one of the most important parts of playing classical music!
