hey, i have been taking piano lessons at school since year 7 and i`m in year 9 now. i just moved schools and this school is asking for over £120 per term for weekly 20 min lessons, while at my last school they were free. do u think i should get private lessons after school(which costs just under £11 for a half hour lesson) or carry on on my own and teach myself the rest as i already know the basics, as i`ve done my grade 1 exam.
please reply i need help
thanx

£11 per half hour is the going rate in our area, and it really is quite reasonable. Some schools have to charge for music lessons now due to budget cuts over the last couple of years in England. When there are budget cuts, music lessons are always the first thing to go. My school paid for our music lessons until last September whereas now we have to pay for our lessons - £10.60 per hour.
If you want to carry on with music it would be best to have a teacher but if you can`t afford it then you will have to make do with teaching yourself. Good luck.
