Does anyone play accordians here? I`m from Melbourne Australia and am considering either picking up the violin (fiddle playing) or accordian.

I`d choose the violin, mainly because the keys on an accordion are smaller than the keys on the piano, which might mess you up when switching between the two. And there`s more music written for the violin. Third reason is a personal thing: I don`t really like the sound of accordions.

Hi Harvey, I`ve mucked around on someone else`s accordion before in the past, it didn`t seem like a problem switching between piano and the accordion. My jazz piano teacher was also an accordion player, I recently heard about him competing as a top contender in accordion championships (something I had no idea about when I was still taking lessons from him years ago!). I also have a violin already and have been playng on it a little. I wanted to try the accordion as well though.

Jen - Do you take lessons on the accordion? What kind of accordion do you have? Do you know where I can go to get accordions in Melbourne? I tried calling Allans music and BillyHydes but neither had a clue. I tried Lewis`s music as well.

i just got an accordian last saturday. I`m trying to figure out how it`s set up. There doesn`t seem to be like..note patterns or anything, but I`m starting to understand it more.

An accordion is quite complicated in its set up, lots of movable parts. Do you have someone helping you with this?
