I`d say I like Beethoven more, but they`re both really good. I like his Sonata No. 23 (Appassionata).

Yea, I agree with Harvey, Appassionata is a good one, but it`s extremely difficult.

I think mozart was a more talented pianist and musician overall but Beethoven produced far better melodies than mozart, especially for the piano.
Why has the media made it seem that mozart and beethoven were miles ahead of all other composers? I think the best composer for the piano was chopin, if you want to hear some really, really ingenious pieces listen to him, he didn`t diliberately try to make his pieces overly difficult like rachmaninoff or Godowsky, and his pieces are as beautiful, in a much more complicated way than Beethoven or Mozart

Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin are from different periods of music. Different periods appeal to different people.

mozart and beethoven are "miles ahead of other composers," as you put it, because they were complete composers in the sense that they composed piano solo, as well as symphonies, concerti, etc.

but if you`re talkin about piano/keyboard music, bach and chopin are the greatest geniuses who ever lived, hands down.

Id have to say that i prefer mozart, but my favorite piano composer is chopin.....his pieces are works of genius...i recently learnt his "minute waltz" and it is by far the most difficult piece i have even played, and thats since i started when i was 9 ( im now 16, i took grade 8 when i was 14) but still i would have to say that good songs arent always difficult , i love chopins nocturne yet it is relatively simple....what does everyone else think of him

yes, chopin is the most widely liked/enjoyed composer of all time. no composer ever focused on only one instrument as he did.. the piano.. wrote one masterpiece after another..

which nocturne are u talking about? he wrote 20.

i like mozart, beethoven, and chopin. i prefer beethoven and chopin over mozart tho. beethoven wrote some really good sonatas like the pathétique, moonlight, tempest, appassionata, waldstein, and the hammerklavier, and his 5th symphony is wow. chopin`s ballads and fantasie impromptu are incredible. mozart came b4 beethoven and chopin so his music is less "modern" which is probably y not many ppl enjoy him as much as beethoven and chopin.
