I`m 15, and have had lessons for a while, and lately have realled warmed up to the piano. I have played some pretty advanced stuff, and will start my first paino concerto in a couple of weeks. What are some good advanced pieces that I should play?

what piano concerto? If you`ve only been playing awhile Mozart`s Sonata in AM might be a good choice (KV 331). It is relatively simple and you may recognize some of the themes.

well, I`m talking maybe 6-7 years experience, and as of now i`m already palying a mozart sonata, and I will be starting mendelssohn`s first concerto.

don`t get your head too high about mendollsohn dude - it`s not easy/i but it definitely isn`t difficult if you`ve ever played a concerto
you`d probably shiit yourself if you saw prokofiev 3

yes i know i am not a very dedicated/talented pianist, and after such a long time at the piano i should be much better. And the mendelssohn isn`t too difficult, i agree. I was just asking what pieces for solo piano are best.

Lots of people like Liszt`s Etudes Transcendentale (or however you spell).

Play Chopin`s Fantasie-Impromptu
I played it for my spring recital. It`s a great solo piano piece that`s hard.

would you guys consider fantasie impromptu the hardest of chopin`s impromtus? Harder that the revolutionary etude? Than the g minor ballade? Its just I might play one of these in the upcoming future.

Hey guys i`m just wondering, when you play concertos do you play the whole thing? I usually do and they`re really long! some of them r like an hour!

In my eyes, if you play Fantasie-Impromptu, you`ll look like a beginner-pianist trying to impress people.

The "Appasionata" sonata is nice. It`s not overplayed like Impromptu, or Rachmaninoff Prelude.
Really good show-off piece too.

yeah, my older brothers working on the appasionata right now, however, so don`t want to copy him.

no, fantasy impromptu is definitely not difficult compared to many of Chopin`s other works. it`s hackneyed, so only learn it to know it, not to perform it. yeah i love appassionata sonata. i played for an audition and it swayed the panel towards me, cuz it`s not often played and it displays many qualities. the entire piece would be sort of a stretch if you`ve never played any beethoven before though

Chopin`s etude op.25 no.11 is really good, though not extremely hard, but challenging, and NOT overplayed like fantasie-impromptu

You could try chopins etude op. 10 no.4 in C sharp minor. I think its difficult but it sounds awsome.

You could also try Rachmaninoff piano concerto no.2 and 3. Or something from Samuel Barber-like his Sonatas or Concerto. Chopin ballades are excellent-all extremely hard and beautiful. His 2 concertos are wonderful also.
