Hello here,
I am wondering if there is anybody interested to discuss about classical piano music here... I cannot find any thread about classical music on this forum.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Fab.

What of classical music would you like to discuss? What are you playing right now? Are you a Hanon freak like I am? Do you favor Chopin over pretty much anyone else like I do? Come now, let us discuss!!

Hello!

I am glad to know you love classical music. I am a professional violinist and I`d like to know what is the most interesting piano repertoire for a pianist, just for my knowledge and beacuse I`d like to play the piano too.

Thank you for any idea!

Sincerely,
Fab.

Im sorry to ruin the trend, but liszt is the greatest pianist who ever lived (in my opinion), in terms of his writing genious and also his abilty to play any piece, no matter how difficult, just by hearing it. I dont actually know much about chopin, his pieces are brilliant but im constantly looking to see why people favour him over the master.

The most interesting... That`s difficult becuase it depends mostly on what interests you the musician, and your audience. I myself tend to prefer showy pieces like Chopin`s Fantaisie-Impromptu. Others lean more toward Nocturnes and such. On the other hand, when I`m playing at work I tend to stick to quiet pieces (they want me to do background music). What do you play on the violin?

I used to like Fantasie-Impromptu, until I heard a million people play it at competitions. Now I hate it.
Chopin is still my fav. composer.

So you would like to discuss classical music huh? Well then I`ll start.
How do you think Beethoven`s Für Elise got so popular?

I just think that liszt pieces are incredible, not only in their comlexity, but the melody and the emotions. Fantasie impromptu is also an unbelievable piece: how would you ever come up with those combination of notes at the beginning? And was he just able to play it straight away or did he have to practice over and over?
Fur elise, perhaps its been used in something, a movie maybe. It is beautiful and so well known, i mean if u ask some random person to hum a classical piano piece, chances are theyll do fur elise, or theyll look at you like youre a weirdo!

Impromptus are pieces that sound like impovisations, not real improv written down.

Thank you for your ideas.

I think that of course Fur Elise must be used in some famous movie (sincerely I don`t know which one), despite it is actually a beautiful piece.

About Liszt`s compositions, I think that anyone has to study them before to be able to play them. Even the best professional pianist.

What do you think about Beethoven`s music? Do you find it difficult to play musically?

Thank you again.

Fab.

Beethoven had some really great music, I particularly like his Sonatas and Concertos. A lot of them look really easy but they`re really not because you have to look at them in multiple perspectives and play them MUSICALLY! Not just notes off a page! Also, it`s easy to think a piece goes slow but often they go really fast and you don`t know it! Anyone else have opinions about Beethoven?

Yes Mike,
you got the point! I am violinist and even in the violin repertoire Beethoven is very hard musically. Mozart has similar difficulty, but Beethoven is the great composer "not more of the classical period" and "not yet of the romantic one"... here is the difficulty of his interpretation! I am very glad to know that it`s the same for the piano.

Do you know other composers comparable to Beethoven? Not more "classical" but not yet "romantic"?

Thank you again.

Sincerely,
Fab.

Beethoven: Sometimes, but not as much as Debussy or somebody like that.
Actually I find it quite easy to play Beethoven musically, his sonatas anyway.
