Can anyone play this piece? if so do you agree it takes ages to learn, and is quite fiendish.

marc-andre sucks. i`ve seen him play an arpeggio. He missed every note except the first.

I think it`s easy to play the right hand alone, and just play and sustain the first not in the left hand. But, to play it hands together is a totally and much more difficult thing. I can only play the first few measures hands together at 2/3 speed (but then, I haven`t really spent enough time and energy on it anyways).

I think what is true of all the etudes is that it is easy for anyone to play them slowly, but to play them up to tempo is extremely hard (and strains your hand if you aren`t quite up to that level in technique--Etude No. 11, Opus 10; Etude No. 1, Opus 25; and more).

I would say the hardest of Chopin`s etude is actually his first. U really need strong hands to play that.
We had a previous thread regarding Chopin Revolutionary etude at solomusic.

yeah i`ve learned all of them, and i`m not bragging, i`m damn proud of it. it was really difficult, anyone who says otherwise is lying. But no.24 is only the beginning; if you look carefully at some of the early etudes ( no.1, no.2)
you`ll see that playing fast arpeggios isn`t the most difficult part of playing chopin. You should look for the pattern and go over it slowly, varying your touch; play it firm at times, but also see how well you can control passages by playing them as softly as you can. good luck

Yes, he`s right. The esrlier works are more difficult. Particularly Chopin`s first.
And playing them hell fast is achievable, but ultimately it`s the pianistic control that`s difficult in the first.
U need a firm grasp...strong fingers to play no. 1.
And the most difficult thing about the first is in bringing out the huge arc phrases in the right hand.
