can anyone tell me why I mess up quite a lot on easy songs like level 1`s when I can play some of level 8`s without messing up.

Maybe it`s because of ur mindset to pay more attention when playing "difficult" songs OR they are predictable & easy to play by sight-reading?
I don`t know the answer too.

because you have little practice playing the song.
You`re still partially in the sight reading stage because its soooo easy.
Memorize the piece and then come back here.
