Hey I`m 15 and I started playing the piano only about 4 months ago. I`m determined to become really well at playing and I need some pointers. Can anyone recomend me a good practicing schedule that includes scales, arpeggios, and sight reading that would be effective in helping me become the best player I can be.

First off make sure you have a comfortable feel for the piano, sitting position, etc.

Whenever I sit down at my piano, I always run a chromatic scale up every key on the piano, I don`t know why, it`s just a habbit, but it semi-warms up my hands. If you`re hardcore, then at you`re level I`d do 10-15 minutes of scales, depending on how many you know, be familiar with key signatures, accidentals etc. Then I would do triads solid then broken. If you are comfortable with 4 note chords, then go ahead. Arpeggioes can be very tedious and difficult if you do not know the propor fingering. Try to find a fingering chart for scaled, chords, arpeggios etc. I would recommend doing in the following order:

1) Scales
2) Triads/Chords
3) Arpeggios

When you become more advanced with technical skills, use two hands instead of one, slowly speed up (get a metronome).

Sorry if this is kinda a disorganized schedule, not much of one anyways, just the main fundamentals you would need to know if you want to have a good basis for a future as a pianist.

try gettin a scale book or Hanon Vituoso. its pretty good finger placement and stuff. if you are in like grade 7 and up then try four notes chords (broken only!) and dominant seventh and dminished seventh

I do not really know of any websites but if you want you can email me any of the questions that you may have. I will help you in every way that I can to help you learn to read music. My email is jdmagic@hotmail.com .
I only have one question for anyone on this site though. I have played many instruments and it was not until I was in 7th grade that I was diagnosed with a disease that basically eats away at your eye and stops you from seeing. When I got into 9th grade I was considered legally blind although I could see a little. Now that I am in 11th grade I am considered to be totally blind in both eyes. I still play clarinet my main istrument and alot of others with the help of some very devoted instructors, directors, friends and family members that are now starting to play music. They are nice enough to play the music so that I can hear what it is supposed to sound like and then I try to figure it out and memorize it. They are nice though they do not keep me looking for the notes when I can not match them.

When my dad found out that eventually I was going to go blind he started looking around for ways that would help me be independent. He went into many computer shops and searched the internet for something to help. Eventually he found a program that reads what is on the screen. I do not know how much it was, he is refusing to tell me. I find the computer much easier to manage then getting around outside of the house when I go to school or shoping.

Didn`t you have a question? You said `I only have one question for the people on this site`, then didn`t ask it.

sorry I did not realize that i did not ask the question. I wanted to know how many of you would continue to play music. I am not thinking of quiting I am just curious. I promised myself that I would not quit because I really like to play and I just got a wooden clarinet not that long ago from my grand father and I really love the sound of it. It makes me happy that I have friends that are williing to help me continue.
