I am a blind pianist and am hoping that there are other people out there that are blind and play instruments too. I am looking for some one to chat with. I do not plan on quitting and have friends that help me to continue playing the piano. I started to lose my eyesight when I was in seventh grade and I am now totally blind. I promised myself that I would not quit no matter what and I do not plan to let this get in my way. It would be great to chat with someone like me.

My grandmother is blind and she is a brilliant musician. She has taught me to play many, many instruments and she is still better than me! Shes`s seventy four, and can play the guitar, the piano, violin, viola, ocarina, the base, cello, double base, the harp and many other instruments even including the drums! I can play all of the above (thanks to her teaching) and she is currently teaching me to play the oboe and clarenet. Im only fourteen and i cant imagine what it must be like to be blind but the point is dont give up because you`re not alone!

Karl, I think that your grandmother is a really cool lady because she plays so many instruments. As of right now I play clarinet, flute, alto sax, recorder, piano, and percusion (bells and Chimes). I also play for a professional polka band which I love to do but it is a lot of work. As far as typing and reading things that are on the computer I had a regular keyboard for a while until my father got me a brail one. I knew how to type before I lost my eyesight so it was not problem but he though it would really help for me to have a brail keyboard. Yes I do have on of those programs that read what is on the monitor although sometimes it is really slow. But I should not complain because I am supposed to get a faster one soon.

Hey Jennifer, i really admire your attitude towards this issue. You know, even if you are blind, you are still capable of so much more, and you can still achieve so much. I can`t remember his name, but there is that famous afro-american singer/pianist who was blind. He was absolute great and a recent film was made about him, starring Jamie Foxx. Perhaps one day you could be great, and I would be able to hear your debut single on radio, who knows? Anyway girl, keep up that attitude...

Hunter, actually I do not have people that type and read for me while I am on the computer. I have a program that reads what is on the screan and I have a keyboard with brail on it. At first I did not have all this but my mom would help with the reading. I already knew how to type by the time that I lost my eyesight. It was a class that we had to take in middle school. It is really cool though. For band though I have to have someone play the part first and then I try to figure it out. I also have to memorize what I learned and that is hard when you play a lot of instruments. As of now I play clarinet, alto sax, flute, piano, guitar, percussion, and recorder. A lot of people then think that I am really bad but in actuallity I play with a professional polka band and I am only 17 going on 18 this year. I really love to play and did not let anything get in the way of my dream. My friends are the best because without them I do not think that it would be quite as easy to learn the music. Thanks for all the luck but please do not feel sorry for me because it is easy to express my feelings through music now and now that I am used to it it is no problem.

I don`t believe in blind classical pianist. It would be impossible to play a song, such as Islamey blind. I hate telling good people bad news. But I am blind and I saw this one pianist also who was blind, attempt a concerto. I saw his hands miss several major chords. LOL! Keep up the good work though, I admire you. Hopefully you have a sense of humor. Take care!

Jennifer, keep up the good work! I think that it`s really cool that you are blind and that you don`t let that handicap get in the way of your playing. If you keep practicing you could become famous one day which would be sweet! I think that you will make a very fine musician someday, and you`re already on your way to a successful career.
I can play clarinet, sax, oboe, piano, violin, guitar, trumpet/cornet, and french horn. I`m not good at sight reading and reading all the notes correctly, so I usually have to listen to a recording of the music, or have someone play it for me before I do.
I don`t know if Jonathan was being serious or not, but I think you can play anything you want to, even that "Islamey" song or whatever it was. Just because one person can`t play it doesn`t mean you can`t. I think you should learn to play that song just to prove Jonathan, and anyone else who doubts your ability, wrong.
Anyways, keep playing, and never give up!
