Hi, I am a girl "DRUMMER". Im 16 and think that some guys just don`t think girls can out play them on drums. I also play Flute,Clarinet,Mallets,Oboe. The guys in my Drumline contiuosly tell me go play your flute or clarinet. The say "Pretty chics aren`t surpossed to play drums" Well i decided what the heck and started drummin` Now im better than most the guys in my Drumline, and boy are they jealous. Well there is this one guy i wanted to date in the drumline and he told me "NO" he said he could never date a girl that plays better than him. Wierd huh? I was like what does drumline have to do with an relationship. I reccomend all girls to start playing drums.

Wow, I`ve seen this in the trumpet forum, the flute forum, and now here? What is with you guys? Gender has absolutely nothing to do with a musician`s potential ability on their instrument. The only people who have problems with this are immature junior high school band students. Sounds like the guy drummers in your classes fit that bill perfectly. This isn`t the Olympics, you guys. It`s music, and we as musicians are supposed to be above all this nonsense prejudice...

Grow up.

Thomas

from personal experience, in my band, weve only had 2 girl drummers and they wernt too great but i was glad to have them to break the ice and make it ok for girls to play drums at my school. i have no doubt at all that girls and guys start out at an equal level of drumming talent and both sexes can get as good as they want. my teacher for private lessons also teaches middle school band and has a girl in 6th grade who can play the snare part of 1 of our cadences better than some of my freshman (i`m a junior and the section leader). on the dating issue a girl that can throw it down better than me would be very sexy and a definate turn ON the guy you asked out wouldnt have been worth it if that was the reason he said no

This is my first year playing percussion in band and I haven`t been in band since 5th grade when I played the clarinet( which I sucked at ). But anyways I`m getting pretty good at it I`m in the percussion section in the school band ( concert and marching ) and my audition for playing bass in drumline was pretty good and the assitent director said that I improved really good. So now I`m in the pit and i like being in pit it`s awsome but I love percussion now...

The guy that helped me out with teaching me and stuff has been doing percussion since elem. and I can say that I`m about the same in knowing stuff as he but he`s better at drumming the me. But I guess girls can be as good as drummers then guys.

Dude, it totally shouldn`t matter if you`re a girl or guy. You can still drum and be freaking awesome as long as you work at it and do the right things.

I mean, people probably think that only guys can be on a drumline, but that`s because of stupid stereotyping. Some of the best drummers on our drumline are girls, but at the same time, some of our best are guys too.

Stupid stereotypes

Girls can play just as well as guys. In fact, there are 8 girls on our drumline, and we out number the guys (my school is kinda small). Our girls can play BETTER than the guys. Any guy who thinks that just cuz he has a deep voice and hair on his chest he`s better than us is lame. Who brought you into this world? A woman. That`s right.

Keira, im not trying to insult you, but it sounds like your being VERY sexes right now. You are complaining that guys say they are better than girls, and you sound like you are saying girls are better than guys(on drums). This is suppose to be forum for chat, not for insults. And not ALL guys are like the ones you know. So please, lay off the sexest comments, and not just you, everyone. Anyone can be good at any instrument.

We had the prettiest red haired drummer in our high school drum line and she played great. She graduated from Towson State with a degree in musc performance - on percussion of course. If you would like to hear a civil war era brass band with original rope tension drums, check out jvmusic.net/fcbb That`s our band
