I`ve been playing snare drum for a while, and to my understanding you have to have respect for both female and male drummers. Sometimes guys get caught up in this " guys are better than girls thing " ,but to tell you the truth it really doesn`t matter.

Who cares? Just live. If someone cuts you down because of your sex, don`t try fix them, it`s like teaching a cow how to sing (impossible). It`t dumb to cut down a sex as well as being bothered when someone says it.
Ted, I bet you`re a girl pretending to be a guy.

I wasn`t trying to be sexist, I`m just saying guys think they`re better than us and I`m proving them wrong. I believe in equal everything for everyone no matter their color, religion, gender or whatever...we all work the same inside and yeah, some people are better than others at stuff, but that isn`t dependant on whether they are male or female, black or white, jewish or christian etc...

Hey,
My name is Jessica or Jessy whatever you want to call me is fine. I am 16 and a junior at my high school PHS. We have a huge marching band and we are going to be in the St. Patrick`s Day Parade in New York this year. But, anyway that is not the reason I came to talk about. I am a drummer. Well, acually i play everything but in band I am a drummer/percussionist. I am the lead snare player and I am a girl and I have three other guys in my snare section. At first when i wanted to go into band in my middle school I was gonna play trumpet, but unfourtunatly I was told I did not have enough experience so therefore, i wasn`t accepted into the band. So, instead I had to take a regular music class. This is where I found out my talent for the drums really quickly. One day, my teacher Dr. Price said we were going to go to the band room and play the drums. At this I became very excited because one of my idols was Travis Barker because how awesome he was at the drums and I had always wanted to play. Well, everyone had gone and then it was my turn to go up and show what I could do on a drumset. Well, I went into a pretty sweet drum beat and then just put some fills in and kept going with the beat. So I was going with the beat or awhile and everyone was in shock at how good I was for a girl and for someone who hadn`t even learned how to play drums. Well, all of a sudden I started to go into a solo. It was amazing everyone was like "holy crap, how did you learn that?" I kept going and I went for about a min more and then ended by hitting the hi-hat. Dr. Price was so astounded that he wanted me to take a book home and see what I could do with it and maybe he would let me into the band next year as a percussionist. So, I took it home oveer the summer and taught myself how to read music altogether and everything i could about drumming. Well, it turned out that I got into the band in 8th grade. Dr. Price had never done that in his entire career. This made me feel great, like I was something special. At first people did not like me because, they felt like I was not good enough for them and that I should not have been there. Well, they soon found out that I was one of the best ones there and they soon liked me adn I became friends with almost all of them. Then, when I went to the high school I was really excited to be on the drumline. Well, I became a bass drummer my first year and besides the fact i was a bass drummer, I also had the biggest bass drum. We were an all girls bass drum line, which our school had never done. Then, one day I asked my co section leader if I could try his Quints and see if I could play them. Well, he let me and so i put the harness on and put the quints on and i just started jamming on them. The entire line loved it and said I had a real talent for drums and percussion in general. So, the following year, my sophmore year I moved on to the Quints/Tenors. I was put in charge of starting the cadence a very important job, because you have to be able to hear the Drum major or majorette bloww the whistle. Well, I had great fun witht eh quints/ Tenors. Now, I am in my junior year and still playing but now I am on the snare. I am also co-section leader and will be section leader next year. All of the boys have great resect fr me because I am a strong person and very dedicated. I am also the drummer for about 3 bands. We perform in Battle of the Bands and other events. Well, that is my story for now. So girls, don`t eveer give up on something you wanna do. Don`t let any boy tell you, you are not good enough because it isn`t true.

*~Jessica~* aka Cooper, Jessy, Jess, and all of my other many nicknames.
