most band directors know little or nothing about drumming beyond what they were required to learn for thier degree. when i was in high school our director rarely said anything to our line excpet "not so loud drumline" hehe. try to think of it from a directors point of view. you have alot more horns and woodwinds than drummers, and they require alot more attention. this often leaves the drumline bored out of thier skulls which often leads to goofing off which distracts the rest of the band. this can be very frustrating for a director.
is this fair to the drumline? heck no! you deserve time and attention too. unfortunately most directors dont have the time or the knowledge to give to you.
do you have a drumline/percussion instructor? if not try to find one. thier are alot of people (like me) who will gladly voulenteer to teach a drumline. if you have a drum corps in your area, contact the corps office and ask if they have anyone who would be willing to help you out. if you dont have a corps in your area (which is pretty common) contact your local college or university percussion department, they may have a few student willing to help.
