Don`t worry that your left hand is faster. Practice all of your exercise two ways: 1 the absolute slowest you can, focusing on stick height and controlling rebound; then practice going as fast as you can (don`t worry if it doesn`t sound clean, just keep your hands moving-this will help strengthen and build endurance in your hands.

One idea is to use the the slow portion as your warm-up,, then move up in tempo to just for you feel any tension in your hands. What will happen is that the tempo where you feel tension will become faster. At the same time, the portion of your practice that is strictly for speed will also start to sound cleaner.

I just spent an hour working out, so my hands were still tired trying to type that last post --- If your right hand is faster, no problem. Start the exercises with your left hand first. You`ll get a better feel for time by focusing on your weak hand.

If you want to, mark time with your feet or at least tap your foot on quarter notes; my instructor started out by telling me to stomp my foot on quarter notes. The main thing you should be after is practicing for being completely relaxed and in control of your sticks...

Get some of The Police(the band)and listen to the drumming parts in it. The drummer Stewart Copeland plays a whole set traditional style. I do to and it`s hard to get used to but it`s possible. Get Regatta de Blanc and listen to all the tracks. This guy will BLOW YOU AWAY!!!!

Have you had problems keeping time? Has your dad yelled at you for slowwing down? Unfoutunatly I have to say mine has and get a metronome. It`s a little almost pyramid shaped box with an upside down pendilum.

You can play whatever you want, but you need to build your chops at jazz and R&B. I`m not possesed. My dad told me this because he read it in some bass guitar magazine.

It doesnt matter if you are left or right handed to play trad grip or any grip.. All it takes its PRACTICE. practice practice practice. heights, rduiments, hybrids, technique, every single little detail. If you want to play truly fast.. Get a towel and start playing double strokes or single or double stops along with music or a met, with proper technique of course. Do it till you cant. If you keep on practicing you`ll get chops, which will help you be able to play faster.. and you`ll have better control with your grip.

As for a met.. technology has advanced so far that now we have electric mets... Don`t get those cheap credit card ones, get a nice one that can subdivite. A bit costly, but worth it.

oh yeah, if one hand is faster, that means you have uneven chops

I was at Sam Ash one day and I saw this drum pad that was this jell wraped in plastic. This is suppostly to make your wrists work. So it helps you do rolls faster.

The only drawback to that pad: You work harder to get a bounce, but the key is to control the bounce you get. Try a RealFeel pad. The principle is that no matter how much strength you gain to get multiple bounces out of the softest surface, you still have to be able control what happens when that stick comes back at you. If you work out with the moongel pad, then play on a marching snare, you`ll notice just how quickly that stick can rebound and you won`t be prepared.
