dude i goto high school and i have marched snare for the last two years, i tried learning tricks and showed off a bit but when it came down to playing in a line i was terrible, of course i got better but the point is learn the basics before you do the tricks, sort of like learn to crawl before you walk.
if you take my advice you`ll be able to play some ram and then add some cool backsticking or something. no one wants to hear just backstickings or one handed rolls ect.
good luck,
Phil

I think drumsets are waaaaaaaaaaay harder than snare drums.

We use more than one drum, while you snare drummers play only one.

You guys try so hard to make yourselfs big, but I already can play snare with my drum set.

Drumset guys can probably play all those "DCI" drum music you wimps talk about.

I mean, IT`S ONLY OONNNNEEE DRUM!!!!!!!!

The only reason drumset is harder is because you probably hesitate when playing. I have a set AND marching snare, so shut up or strap up.

Woa, Steven. When was the last BET classic? I missed it and was hoping to catch some awesome drums. At least tell me who won. Thanks!

Drumset & marching percussion    20:51 on Friday, April 22, 2005

Let`s clear up some myths about drumming
1 - Being a "Set" drummer does not automatically qualify someone for marching percussion, not even multi-tenors (AKA quads, qunits, etc.)
2 - Being a marching drummer does not mean you can play a drumset!
3 - Good time, meter, and fundamentals (rudiments, technique) make you a more solid drummer, PERIOD!
4 - Only when you dedicate yourself to learning and understanding more than one type of drumming, such as hand drums, keyboard percussion, etc., and more than one style (jazz, rock, Afro-Cuban, Celtic, Raga) can you become a musician.

Now for some specifics:
A) Playing drumset takes a little more 4-way coordination than marching percussion.
B) Marching percussion demands extremely clean technique and stick control
C) ALL OF THE ABOVE ARE VERY PHYSICALLY DEMANDING: What do a 12-minute Drum Corps program with tempos updwards of 180-200 BPM, a 2-hour concert behind a drumset, and playing a vibraphone in a jazz ensemble have in common? It`s all good!

DON`T TRY TO LIVE UP TO THE MOVIE IMAGE. Drumline the Movie, while entertaining, is highly inaccurate on several levels. I
myself am in drumline and all the guys ive talked to in other drumlines HATED the movie. It exagerates everything about Drumlines. Heck even the college, i think it was A&T, wasnt real. All im trying to say is if you want to learn some tricks like helicopter and backsticking, learn it from a friend or teacher, not a movie.
