there is a lot of great material that you can download. check out murray gussack`s writing at http://www.tapspace.com. you will learn more from trying those exercises than you could ever learn from that stupid movie. As a drum corps member and a high school instructor I always see the younger players trying to do tricks. They are cool and everything, but... those rudiments are more important than any trick you will EVER lean. And over my years I have learned that the better you are at your rudiments the easier those tricks seem to be.

hey man I had a hard time figurein stick flips out to. Just make sure that you play trditional style. Another impotant tip is to play on a pilloe for a hour like when you are watch tv or something you wrist will get stronger it helps you play faster.

Hey, ive been playing drums for 6 years marching snare and tenors, and the most affective thing i know how to do it, as far as learning how to "back stick" and "3 way back sticking" or just playing fast is to take it slow, very slow start off at a low tempo, and work your way up, and also go to vicfirth.com and look up all the vidos and the 40 rudiments. But just find your groove, be sure to worm up first you cant just pick up a pair of drum sticks and go to town perfectly without worm ups, try 8 on hand or 16 on hand worm ups to start with, i hope i help out ah little.

Hey Bryce, what do mean by one hand roll?

And Zero, traditional style? Do you mean by the way you hold the stick or the drum playing style?

its where you get the sticking fast enough to do a roll with one hand. it has to do with your finger speed, stick control, and head response. and when youre doing marching snare drumming, traditional feels so much more comfortable

i would like everybody to know that even though i cannot do a single handed roll, i am in the process of working on it by learning the basic rudiments and the hybrid rudiments. and the way i know on what techniques are like is because i know people who know and i ask them.

Hey Bryce and John, just because a guy doesn`t know what one handed roll is don`t asuume that a guy can`t play the drums.
And of course there is a bunch of guys and girls that could play faster than me, I`m not the best player in the world!
Anyway, Bryce and John, I already know my basic 40 rudiments, I know it`s all about finger speed and rebound, and I love the corps style drumming.
Maybe I should`ve added a etc..

ive been playing for about 5 years. To do the drumline stuff, you just need to put some sticks and a pad in front of the Tv and practice. It helps to get a DVD player and watch the parts on slo mo. Its also good to build up your wrists. I play straight sixteenths on a pillow for 10 minutes every night. Good luck man.

Nobody should be like Devon because he doesn`t believe rudiments and reading music is importaint.
If you really listened, the musics are fairly easy(But not so easy for beginners, they`ll need the sheet music to play it).
And if you were inspired to play the drums because of the movie, good!
But do not get any attitude problems like Devon. If the section leader tells you to do push-ups, then do it. It`s not always about you, you are not the most importaint guy in the drumline.

I`m a fan of the DCI, but I see a lot of people that are into HONDA Battle of the Bands here in this forum.
Try see the last compitition again in the movie where they play Petey Pablo, and other songs. Then Listen to the DCI.
I think you`ll see a lot of difference.

Here is a sample of the DCI. It`s remembrance by the Madison Scouts in their compitition. http://download.vmb.oboeguru.net/Remembrance.wma

Think rudimental drummers can`t have showmanship? Check out http://www.drumlineparkinglot.net/dci/i_and_e/index.htm and click on any of the solos listed, then watch and learn kid!

Don`t try them would be your best bet, because those are very advanced and very difficult, just make some up on your own, just spin the stick in ure hands get a good feel for it moving, then just start flipping and tossing

What are all of you talking about? You have no clue. Go to the vicfirth media vault or the 2004 one and check out SCV or something.....that`s drumming.........and the other drumline competing against georgia in that movie should have won they actually played stuff.......that was almost together.....I basically laughed my ass off through that whole movie cause it was so stupid...technique throughout the line was horrible...if you even know what proper technique is.........better yet....go to a drumcorps camp.....so when you get cut they`ll tell you proper things to work on...

ok first of all people sayin that they wana copy everything off drumline and thinkin thats wht will make them good there wrong. Drumline is a movie and its ok to like it because it IS A MOVIE! but wanting to learn ur chops straight from there is a waste of ur time there playing is dirty and its simple and it aint gonna get u on a line. if u wana check out sum real drumlines find some DCI websites, or if u like visuals go check out wgi indoor drumlines there indoor shows freakin rock., they have nice visuals and clean and advanced chops(ex RCC, MCM etc). so bottom line if ur a beginner and want to get into drums thats great i encourage u but DRUMLINE the movie is not where to learn it.
