So here`s the deal. First, practice Traditional grip, otherwise you`ll have trouble starting it with traditional on auditions ( i barely made it cuase i practiced match grip ) and work on diddles.
Practice diddles on a pillow ( simple LLRRLLRR and keep speeding it up , start slow first tho ) If you email me i`ll give you some insane snare music you can learn. (not hard, but insanely cool)

Here`s a good example of Switching from Regular Sticking to Backsticking=

FFFFBFFF (F- Front B-Back)
RLRLRLRL (R- Right L- Left)
1+2+3+4+ Play eight notes

if i get my digital camera soon ill take pictures for you
to get a good ida of how it goes.

Email me if you need anything

Keep drumming

About this backsticking thing, isolate the right hand and then isolate the left hand. Just play what the right hand does and then put it together with the left. Go slow to fast and you should have it. I the captain for the Dallastown Drumline and this year all we do is backsticking. Just e0mail me if you have any questions. later

I`ll say it again: www.drumlineparkinglot.net

Every serious drummer (snare, tenors, etc.) should be mastering rudiments first. Look at it this way: do you want to be able to simply add showmanship based on single strokes, or be able to helicopter a flam drag?

Here`s an imagination exercise: Go to Vic Firth`s rudiment site, check out the rudimental lessons at the Platinum level (you`ll know what I mean when you see it), then imagine yourself using backsticking, flips, etc., while still playing that rudiment at that speed.

Sounds like some drumming I`d pay money to hear, and I do pay money to see it, it`s called drum corps!

hey, i`m 14 and my name is Lucas. My friend and i did a really neat duet last year on a cd for the school. I`m in 8th now. I really need help finding a marimba duet at the 10th grade level. Maybe a little more advanced. We both play piano so don`t worry about the notes or key being to hard. With the exception of four mallets. can`t do that very well yet. Thanks. My e-mail is Tekner2003@yahoo.com if anyone will please e-mail me some coo; music or a site where i can look at it thanks.

Hey. I was doing a google search and I saw this place. I`m not actually a drummer, but I have been wanting to play snare for My school`s Drumline for about a year. My best friend plays Bass, and she has been trying to teach me some things on the Snare. Although I`m getting Lessons with our Drumline Instructor, I was wondering if anyone could teach me a few things. The better I get at it, then the better chance I have to get the part next year, after auditions. I play the Trumpet btw, for HS Marching Band. Thanks...

listen (read) whatever if you want to get some good tricks look at like snare solos. first you would want to build your chops up then clean basic rudiments before you play some hard stuff. after your basic rudiments are clean you can play some cool variations like cheezes flam 5`s stuttered cha chas. and if you want to do the fast roll at the end of the solo look up the casey klaw or hulka helicopter. those will show you how to get it. and when you watch drumline the movie dont think that it is like the best drumline you will ever see. its just easy music with actors with no chops. watch dci or some really good high scool bands. it you want to see a good snare line look up the cavaliers.

Yo
If you use Traditional style, you`ll have more stick control. Plus, it`s requiered in drumlines, or else you can`t make it. It`s hard to get used to it but you can do cooler things with it. So, GET USED TO IT! if you buy the small Remo practice pads, it will help you with your aiming. And you can tune them. but not to tight, I did that and the srews got stuck. so if you can, get some washers under them. When you by the thick sticks , you get louder sound, but don`t overdo it, you want to be able to hold the sticks.

could you tell me what year that madison scouts sample was from? I was just wondering because in 2000 my schools drum instructor played #2 bass in scouts. I curretly play bass in drumline but I`m practicing to get better so I can play snare. I`m currently practicing stick control, timing and rudiments. If you have any other suggestions for anything to practice on please email it to me i_lostmyself@hotmail.com I guarentee I`ll forget about this forum by tonight so just email it to me
