The only advice I can give is keep an open and flexible mind to waht your drum instructor wants from you. Part of choosing a line is all about how the instructor feels you can work well and progress. It will be hard getting 2nd bass druma s a freshman, but I think getting on your instructor's good side (without brown nosing) may help you with getting 2nd bass drum.

umm depending on the size of the bass line,
4,5,or 6 you might wanna rethink second, whichever genius told you 2nd was easy... umm they are wrong BOTTOM BASS is the easiest, especially if it comes to runs. top is where you have both off beats and Tons of action.
but yeah all the other stuff except for the bs from the tenors is true, oh and no pregnant woman stance i.e. leaning back to hold up your drum, stand straight shoulders back. you could mess up your back big time...
