After being out of percussion for many many years myself, I was delighted when my son took up drums. We rented him a Ludwig snare, and after a year he can read quarters/eights/sixteenths and rests. He even had a cool little solo in their 5th grade band performance.
Now we (uh..I mean him) is gonna get a set. Normal 5 pieces. But - I want it to last - no junk.
I need your opinions - If I was gonna spend $800 on a good quality set - what would you recommend? It must include 5 drums/hardware/and at least a 14" hi hat and 20 inch (?) ride. Hardware must be double braced heavy.
I looked at new Pacific CX Maple or new Birch. I also am looking at Ludwig Accent Custom Power. I even found something called an Argent (?).
For this money ($800) - what do you guys and gals recommend? Is the Ludwig good? How does it compare to other makes? How can Pacific make a good maple set for that price?
Tell me what to byt for what I want for $800.
Thanks !!!
