Nobody asked if the movie drumline sucked or wanted to know how fake it was, they just wanted to know if anybody had the sheet music to the cadences. So all of you who have stupid little comments about the movie or dci either keep them to yourself or shut up.

Morris Brown has corp like chops not like A&T because A&T`s drumline was comprised of actors and a few select high school players. I have MBC on dvd with cadences with diddle egg fives and swiss cinnamon rolls and stuff. C`mon anybody can tell that Morris Brown won the chop battle, this is Hollywood. In real life A&T got ate! And as far as the hating between Showband drummers and DCI needs to stop. I love them both in the same. I have been on both sides and both sides are hard work. So do not show your ignorance when speak upon superficial stuff. I marched in Historically Black school and our percussion instructor was from Ball State. So do`nt judge a book by it`s cover! By the way when the Madison Scouts can keep people from getting a hot dog at the halftime of a football game then we can talk. Remember: HALF TIME IS GAME TIME!

THE MOVIE DRUMLINE WAS OFF DA CHAIN ON A SCALE OF 1 TO 10, IT WOULD GET A 12.5. THAT BATTLE AT THE END OF THE MOVIE WAS JUST AWESOME. OUR DRUMLINE PLAYS A COUPLE OF THE CADENCES FROM THE MOVIE. ANYONE WHO DIDN`T LIKE THE MOVIE PROBABLY WAS JUST HATIN` CAUSE YOUR DRUMLINE WILL NEVER COME CLOSE TO ONE OF THOSE DRUMLINES. BY THE WAY IF ANYONE HAS THE MUSIC TO THOSE FIRST SELECTIONS THAT A&T PLAYED ON THE FIELD,PLEASE EMAIL THEM TO ME.

i didn`t agree with the movie either, i thought that the music wasn`t all that great and some of the sticking to the music didn`t make sense because when you listen to certain parts and watch them at the same time the sound should sound a different way. I know that real drummers caught some of the fakeness of the movie. I have to admit I have the movie because my aunt bought it for me as a birthday gift, however the only thing I like is some of the visuals which I do use and our section leader use their cadence as a groove and we made it sound way better than the movie. BUT THE THING THAT TICKS ME OFF THE MOST IS WHEN PEOPLE COMPARE YOU AND YOUR DRUMLINE TO THE STUPID MOVIE BECAUSE THATS ALL PEOPLE KNOW WHEN THEY HEAR DRUMLINE... THE OTHER THING I HATE IS WHEN SOMEBODY GRABS YOUR DRUMSTICKS AND SAY I BUSTING A DRUMLINE...THEN ASK YOU DO YOU COMPETE LIKE THE KIDS IN DRUMLINE....EWWWW I CAN DROPKICK SOMEONE RIGHT NOW,,,,, BECAUSE THE STYLE OF MARCHING IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM THE MOVIE AS WELL AND THE MARCHING IN THE MOVIE IS HORRIBLE....

all of you need to shut the **** up about the movie. Morris Brown could probably kill most DCI D-lines, cuz they have better chops than most of them. don`t diss the movie cuz the movie gave publicity to D-lines and got more ppul interested. im 13 and my middle school is corestyle, but the community marching band im in is showstyle. they each have good things and bad things (even though the showstyle D-line is way better), so everybody needs to stop hating
P.S. i dont see as many showstyle drummers dissing DCI, so you need to shut up
P.S.S. just play the music from the movie by ear, most of the music is easy

how to play the halftime cadence from DRUMLINE

i have written some out. for example, the half time cadence:
i know at some point in the cadence they had backsticked quarter note triplets, an eight note rest and then a rolled eigth note with a quarter note on 4; then another set of triplets, two eigth notes on 3 and the and of 3, then a sixteenth note triplet followed by an eight note; then the first measure as repeated in the third measure; then you do two sixteenths on your drum, an eigth note on the drum to the right of you(do that twice), and then two sixteenths on your drum and three sixtheents on your drum next to you. that is the sequence that happens before shauns solo.
when you get used to all the backsticking and rudiments, you can write your own cadences, thats what i do. ive written two cadences for my middle school.

Ok. So I know you all just love lashing out at everyone else about whether this movie was good or whatever... For what it was, it was a decent movie, with some average acting, but it had an acurate plot. There are many different styles of band out there. Drum Corps (my favorite) Show Band (the movie drumline) and Military (Ohio State). That movie was an acturate portrayal of a southern show style marching band.
I`m the section leader (center snare) for the Bowling Green State University Drumline. We are corp style. And I used to be in band in highschool much like the movie drumline... and it was very hard for me to switch over... but after four years I was able to become the section leader. I do feel that the music that they play is inferior to the music that a corps style drumline would play, but it is some kickin grooves... those are fun to listen to. You have to be repectful of all types. I love corps Style. and neither of those bands played one lick that was clean... and if I were listening and watching that movie expecting that, then i would have been severely dissapointed... but i knew that wasnt going to happen. Cause thats not the main concern for a southern show band.
To get down to some facts. The drumlines in that movie are very real. Morris Brown College is real... and so is that drumline. The A&T drumline was real... however it was not from A&T... A&T does not exist... it is however known as the Sentinal Drumline. The actors did not play any of the music. Their drums were covered in what is called a drum muffle pad. It is a black disc that covers the head so that no attach and sound will come out of the drum. Thats ok with me... its a movie. Not everyone can drum.
Another fact, is that when a trigger is placed on a drum in order to pick up the notes that are played, many times the computer will read drum music with sharps. Sharps are generally picked up do to rim shots which are higher pitched.
Also for those of you who think that Morris Brown College`s Drumline could out play a DCI Div 1 drumline... thats just plain ignorance. THey don`t have better chops because they are not required to have amazing chops, only good sense of groove. We actually had a drummer from M-B College come up to try out for our line this past weekend and was blown away by the chops that were needed for a corpstyle band. It is much harder than you think when you start getting into the college and DCI levels. There are rudiment hybrids and blends you`ve never heard of.
Honestly, I would never want to play the cadences from that movie... but that is because I am not in that style of a drumline. I don`t see a problem with other people playing them because they are some fun beats to listen to. Everyone on this forum needs to grow up and learn that not everyone is the same... not everyone comes from the same backround, not everyone marches in the same style band. From a Music Majors point of view... learn to be a lil more open minded and love ALL types of music or at least respect them for what they are worth. Once again. I love Corps style marching, and I am best friends with some of the greatest drummers to go through DCI in the history of the idium... such as Tim Jackson, or Andrew Markworth, or TJ Hartman, many of the drummers from Blue Devils, Cavies, and Glassmen. And I love to play corps style music. But I still respect the other stuff too. It`s all fun... I love band. End of story.
