I`m new to this forum and have a quick question for anyone familiar with various drum brands. I`m going to purchase a new set but having troubles deciding which is best or better. A low end Tama, Sonor, or Mapex... any input would be great!

My opinion only here....A low end Tama is exactly that, low end. Sonor makes a nice kit (force 2001 & 3001) as does mapex. To be honest I would recommend the Premier brand with their Cabria series. They are 7 ply mahogony shells, and the kick drum has a lot of power. It comes with 2 hide-away boom cymbals stands and a hi-hat stand. Not many kits give you all three. I`d also recommend the Pacific brand, which is owned and made by DW.

Well, ADD has pushed me to purchase before you guys replied. I DID read that some of you liked Pearl and bought myself a 5 piece fusion set.

Thanks Joe! This kit came with 18" pearl crash/ride and 14" hi-hats, throne, sticks, and of course the instructional video which I`ll need. I`m not sure of the construction but the kit got high ratings from users.

Greg,
The instructional video will definitely heighten your interest, but being ADD myself, i have to tell you....TAKE LESSONS!!!!!!! learn the proper way to read music, and practice, practice, practice...
Get into a regular routine, just 30 to 45 minutes every day. and stick with it. It`s hard to stick with it without having ADD, with ADD its nearly impossible. I actually rewarded myself for reaching milestones. Example: You cannot finish a drum book without practicing enough. So I set a goal of finishing a book ( picked by my instructor) and rewarded myself with a new cymbal, or a cowbell, etc. Find something that works for you. It is definitely worth the payoff.

And for the record, there is nothing wrong with a pearl ( you probably got the Forum or Export kit) The worst drummer in the world will sound horrible on the best kit in the world. However, the best drummer in the world will make even the worst, used garage sale warped wood kit sound amazing. That said, I am not a big pearl fan. Good Night

I would definitely go with the Mapex M series. I own a store and have one in stock!!! It`s an amber see-thru wood 5pc. set. If interested just e-mail me.
Thanks
