hey im part of a great pit. The L`anse Creuse Pit in Michigan (look us up sometime). We are probably one of the best pits in the michigan high schools. We practice alot, 6 hours a week through the summer, 8 in the fall. We chop out alot with 6-3-2-1, mostly in the summer for an hour or so straight. i think this year we got up to around 180 or something like that. our instructors are awsome. They won a world championship with thier winter line last year. Eastside Fury. What do you guys normally warm up with? We play different doubles alot. And then we will do some double stops #1. All 16 of us learned four mallets the first week of practice so it was a pretty cool season. We had a huge marimba line this year, 6 marimbas. And then our 4 vibes is pretty normal. How Big is other peoples pits? But we also warm up with different permientations. 1-2-3-4-3-2-1 and 1-3-2-4. But just wondered what other pit lives are like.

I am a freshman in pit, and i would just like to say that i dont know about other pits, but we were just as ahrd as the drumline. I play only melodics, and dspite what most may think its not an easy job.I dont know how it owkrs in other places, but where Im from you have to audition for pit, just like drumline, if you dont make melodics or drumline, then you play auxillary percussion(gong, suspended cymbol, cabasa, viraslap, etc.) i cant speak for those people cuase i made the melodic section. But when the band and drumline is marching at bacndcamp and practicing, they R outside and they get breaks. our Pit stays inside all day with no breakes, except for lunch learning our music. Our melodic section is definatly NOT lazy.

I am currently a pit member in the South Broward High School pit and I love it .We just completed our best marching season ever with 1st place at all our 3 competions and straight superiors at FBA. I love being in pit. Yea, we can be lazy, simple because we are not really appreciated by anyone in the band, but since I am pit captain and also a senior I tell the rest of the pit members that we are the best and we work as hard as we can to add special affects to the band. When at a competiton you are judge on not only battery, but pit as well. Let us all work together people, we are all Band Nerds.

Played in the pit for my first 2 years in high school. Played in a percussion ensemble (solo on vibes) my junior year. But I mainly play alto sax nowadays.

Hey,
Okay i was a flute player and then my 8th grade year i switched over to percussion and it really makes me mad that u think pit is lazy i was in pit and we worked our butts off i asked the battery at my school about this and they said yes pit is harder then battery cuz in pit u have to find the right notes and everything in battery u juss hit a frum the drumline is the whole percussion section the battery is snare, tenor, bass!!!So for yall of you who think pit it lazy lay off at some schools pit is really important and work their butts off and at the school where they do nothing then yes they are lazy i guess it all depends on who is ur teacher cuz my teacher always stressed about how imporant pit is so lose the arrogant attitude about bettery pit is just as important!!!!! I cant believe u are a true percussionist if u believe that pit is bad and sucks!!!

well... i`m sorry to say that i disagree with everyone of you. You see, i am a pit member for my Highschool marching band. Yes , i am a freshman, but i have an opinion on what you`ll are saying. I know one thing, that drummers dont like the pit, at all... you`ll think we`re just a bunch of lazy ass people , who are tehre b/c the drummers are either : 1- hot, 2 - hot , 3 - hot. That is if we are girls, if we`re guys you think we`re there, b/c we couldn`t make snare, tenor, or bass. WEll, i would like to inform you that , at my school - drumline is everythin . And every section of that drumline work there assess off to do there best. yes it`s a given that the drummers are more interseting , b/c of there visuals and way of doing things, and the pit is kidna there... but , we all work to our full quota , and even harder.... i guess it would be safe to let you`ll know that our drumline is 2nd in the state of PA. BUt i just want to disagree with you`ll ,l and just say that somteimes you haev to stop judging areas of a musical group b/c of there reputation.. b/c i know that our pit works hard, and that we are just as good as our drummers.

Anyone who believes that the pit does not work hard can go suck Bobby`s balls(don`t ask)I happen to play the bass drum, but this year decided to be on the pit. Having experience on both sides i can say that pit, at least mine, work much harder than the battery. And when i`m on the battery i carry a 50 lb. drum. So u drummers that believe that pit players are wanna be percussionists, why don`t you try it. Try playing the show Wicked and see how you like it. Go Dallastown Wildcats!

Pit is worthless. Nobody in the stands can even hear pit. Pit is just for people who aren`t good enough for drumline.
