Pit is pretty cool, I agree that the pit wotks just as hard ad the drumline does, and some highschool pits are the bomb, but our highschool pit sucked!! I`m a freshman on bass, hoping to get snare next yr, but we had a great marching season, and I hope its threefold the fun next yr.

omg guys. every part of the percussions section plays their role in the section. But i will admit that most of the not as good people are placed in pit.

Everything below is sheerly IMHO. No flames, please.

People say pit is lazy, but we're not. We may not march, but we do a lot of work. We have a lot of setting up to do, and when we go to competitions, we miss a lot of our lunch break loading up the semi after morning practice.

Musically, the pit is irreplaceable. I don't know about your bands, but our shows make really good use of the pit. We have blazing mallet runs, awesome crash cymbal jigs, and solos that blow the judges away. Then we have the upside-down-cymbal-on-timpani roll... but all in all, front ensemble is not "worthless" or "dumb". We are marching band members too, and deserve just as much respect as everyone else.

this is my personal opinion, but i like keyboards and those kinds of things better than snare, tenors, bass, etc... so i'm gonna be in pit next year...

Some people amaze me, really. Pit does have lazy people. It does not; however, make the pit a lazy section. Though pit is where you usally put your trainies, it is also where you put your very talented malet and auxillery percussionists. If anything, I have seen pits in shows that out do the drumline in musical prowess. Pits deserve just as much respect as the marching part of the drumline, even if they are not "as cool" or don't get as much publicity or hype. It's still music. Isn't that what being in drumline al about? Loving and respecting music? So they don't have to march, so what? I feel bad for them because they are the ones that get seperated from the band at festivals and during performances. I just think they deserve as mucgh respect as any other section.

Oh, and to avoid being off topic and creating spam, no I am not in the pit but I have worked in the pit before.
