hey amy there are serveral kinds of drums out there.you can get a middle class set of drums but there more than 300 dollars.you can by a low end set for about 400 the better sets usely dont come with cymbals.i would by a set with all the hard ware first and then learn beats and rythems

The best beginner kit out there, is a performance percusstion. 5 piece, including a pair of hit hats and crash cymbol.
Also its sterdy for its price and can take a lot of punch and hard playing. I had this kit when i started playing drums, whilst evening played it in rock band.
TOP KIT

Don`t be fooled when it says cymbals are included. Usually, all that means is you`re getting some super cheap cymbals that sound horrible. So, fit into your budget the fact that you are going to need to get some kind of cymbal pack. When I first got my drums, I paid an extra $100 or so on a Sabian pack that came with hi-hats and a ride/crash. I still have the ride/crash.

Well for £300 you are not going to get a lot. get a second hand kit first with any old cymbols just to get you started, because when you start drumming no matter what kit your playing on it is still going to sound crap, trust me i have been there. Get some lessons from a really good teacher that will teach you how to read music aswell as the stuff you want. once you get good, and some money, then think about getting a kit to suit your style. i reccomned a Tama, which is the one which metallica use. and one last thing, drumming can`t be written into you, you have to have it and don`t give up at the first hurdle. hope that has helped!
