I just took the plunge and ordered Gammon roto toms. I`ve had some pretty good luck with "generic" brands on eBay like Mike Kelly acoustic basses.

I will post again when the Gammons arrive.

The Gammon roto toms were decently constructed and well worth the $87 bucks I paid for 3 toms and the stand. The tripod was heavy duty and the rest of the hardware was OK to good. However, the heads were a little on the thin side.

They look and sound good.

I just ordered the Gammon 5pc kit in Met Green. on EBAY. Thanks for the input, I feel alittle bit better about my order since I know Jack about drums. This kit is a gift for someone else just learning.

ordered a black Gammon set for my daughter off ebay. It is assembled and working well; she`s thrilled. The set arrived with a slight dent in the 10"x12" tom ring, and no instructions, but we got it together without too much trouble.

I have been playing on a Hammer drumset for over a year and for the price it blows away the competition. The reverberates when hi tones are near it. Just put some remo two ply heads on it and for the price you can`t go wrong. (Plus leave the tranparent blue heads on the bottom and it makes them look and sound good.

I`ve had a hammer drum set off ebay since last may and my top blue heads r getting pretty worn out and i don`t know what heads to put on. I heard those Remo 2 ply ones were good but i`m asking anyone if they suggest anything

I have had a HAMMER Drum set (ezplayusa.com) for a year and a half, and they are amazing! Look and sound GREAT! The 20 lugs, light blue drum heads and quality are unbeatable!

I have had a gammon set for nearly a year now. the drums themselves are great but there are two disadvantages to this set: one: the base pedal does not have enough spring tension no matter how much you adjust it, which makes it very frustrating sometimes and two: the cymbals are poor quality. I got a crash/ride cymbal in my set and it does not have a great sound. i guess its perfect for a beginner, but i would not recommed it to a serious player. im planning on getting a new pedal ASAP and eventually cymbals too, the only problem is that good quality cymbals from Paiste or Zildjian are very expensive.

Well you have to understand these are lower quality sets for beginners mostly so you can`t expect the cymbals to be much. If you get good enough to play in a band some day then you know it might be worthwhile to start saving for better equipment. And though cymbals are very expensive, the big names do have value items that sound pretty nice but won`t break the bank. And if you watch ebay you can luck into some nice deals on occasion.
