I don`t play drumset, so I`m not sure what size sticks you are going to want for that, but I do know that most set drummers play match grip. However, some of the most awesome drummers I`ve ever seen play traditional (apparently it`s much harder). As far as snare goes, if you are looking to play snare drum in a concert band or orchestra I would say either grip works. It depends on what you are more comfortable with. I play with a kid who switches grips just for the fun of it cause he`s awesome at both. If you plan on picking up keyboards or timpani too I would play match, just for the consitency. My recommended sticks for this type of playing would be 2Bs. Finally, if you plan on playing snare in marching band you definately need to learn to play traditional grip. That`s all college or drum corps will allow, and most high schools are the same way. Recommended sticks for this would be Vic Firth Ralph Hardimon`s with wood tips. Hope I was of some help. If you have any more questions just send me an e-mail and I`ll get back to ya.
