Wow, such language. That is probably why your man is a fictional character, only a figment of your imagination. The real nick cannon or any REAL man for that matter, would not give you the time of day. Reference webster, that is dictionary. There are over 40,000 clear and accurate words and definitions to use in future language.

On the subject of the movie, never compare entertainment nor entertainers to your art. They are actor`s, and even in that, there are levels and that is there art. Drum Line was very entertaining and fun to watch it served its purpose, but it could never measure to what real drum lines go through or what they offer. Take the movie as is, fun entertainment and besides, its generated more interest in bands and drumlines than what any of you guys have.

Here are a few quotes to digest and maybe broaden your horizons.

"The change you wish to see in this world starts with you"
-Gandi

The future depends on what we do in the present.
- Mahatma Gandhi

We are all motivated by a keen desire for praise, and the better a man is, the more he is inspired to glory.
-Cicero

"Along with success comes a reputation for wisdom."
-Euripides

They can because they think they can.
-Virgil

Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.
-W.W. Ziege

The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen.
-Frank Loyd Wright

A failure is a man who has blundered, but is not able to cash in on the experience.
-Elbert Hubbard

There is only one success--to be able to spend your life in your own way.
-Christopher Morley

I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure--which is:
Try to please everybody.
-Herbert Bayard Swope

Success is the good fortune that comes from aspiration, desperation, perspiration and inspiration.
-Evan Esar

To climb steep hills requires a slow pace at first.
Shakespeare
Try not to become a man of success but a man of value. -Albert Einstein

And one quote just for fun.....
If at first you don`t succeed, then quit. There`s no use being a damn fool about it.
-W.C. Fields

Life Quotes
Dost thou love life?
Then do not squander time,
for that is the stuff life is made of.
Benjamin Franklin
Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.

ok so 1st off.... i did not like drumline the movie at all... ive been on a line for the past 4 years and there were so many mistakes in that movie... example.... when you watch the scene where nick cannon and the section leader are doing that snare battle when they are hooked up to the computer and it prints out the music... there are freakin sharps and flats in the music.... i mean come on.... sharps and flats... that just makes me mad right there...

i`d say that the movie itself wasn`t that bad at all. i`m also a druimmer who cant play all that stuff. Nick was tight on the snares. my view is that it all depends on where u are and how much u know. i`m in africa and this side not most of us can read the chart and so we really got inspired a great deal. it appeals to markets such as the Zim one. stop hatin` coz we liked it.

Let`s put all of this Drumline movie stuff behind us and move on to something much greater. For instance, DCI!
Now their drumlines are something to look up to. They are the one`s who inspire. Some of the greatest players in the world combined to form a single line....now that`s what I call amazing!
But don`t get me wrong, I actually liked the movie Drumline.

the movie drumline is just a MOVIE. The music was played by real bands and the people marching on the field were band members. And the reason why everything was off in the movie is because the did the music and the marching seperate you know like when they do a music video(they play the music and then the artist lip-syncs)its the same thing. And when nick cannon and sean were on the machine it is true that the notes were fake because they wanted to enhance the movie. Notice how I said Movie

It was a MOVIE!    04:43 on Tuesday, July 19, 2005

Though I always wanted to be a drummer, or date one of the drumline boys. They were the "cool" marching band members. Although they had this insane fixation with RUSH and Chicago, but it was the early 90`s. Flutes got some respect too. We were a cute section. (So we weren`t as cool as the "snare gods"...but we did ok, even in dorky white pants and "Dinkels".)

As a former band geek, and a flute player (hence, no DCI, no drum and bugle corps for me!) who marched corps style, I just didn`t get, or LIKE show band marching. We marched clean and tight in HS and had a lot of DCI specialists come out and analyze our marching and the stretching and excercises to help HURT. I don`t think my hips joints and knees were EVER the same from some of those "Hip Pop/Flash" moves. I can march backwards on my toes at 90 bpm taking about a yard at a time and play!

BUT, I did relate to the PUSHUPS. LOTS and lots of pushups for screw ups. The camraderie as well, the identity of being a band/section member, the hard work, and the desire to win and the very stinky feeling of losing. (Though I don`t think they sang very bad renditions of "We are the Champions" on the bus in this movie.)

We placed 3rd overall at BOA my Sophomore year and First in our division...not too shabby, and were NY State champs for an obscene length of time. (That streak started my freshman year...yeah, I`m old.)

One more thing...    04:47 on Tuesday, July 19, 2005

Mainly, it was GREAT to have the band be "cool", and not geeks or beaten up. Finally, since our football team SUCKED and we`d won a few States in a row and STREAKED 2 years of competitions someone NON-BAND said, "AT least the band WINS...do you guys win?".

I mean REALLY, whenever I tell someone I play flute all I get is that STUPID American Pie line regarding flutes and band camp and EWWW...not with how much money I paid for that flute!

Corps style vs Show style ..... there really is no comparing the two    11:57 on Wednesday, August 3, 2005

I`m going to go out on a limb and say that most of you march corps style?
I will say one thing about that, there are 3 guys from my line marching corps this year, and I marched corps style in high school.

Now on to my point, I am now in a college marching band which is show style. Don`t compare Show and Corps styles.

I went into auditions with the idea that "oh, it`s just a showstyle band" but I was in for a rude awakening.
Having only one week to learn and memorize a show (music included) is a feat in itself.
Also, the marching can never be complicated because there`s no time to learn it.
The stuff we put on the field is made for that purpose. The music doesn`t have the notes of a corps because we don`t have time to clean it. However, we`re all adept players and can play a clean 16th roll out on the field.

Show style and Corps style are 2 completely different things and one doesn`t have to dislike one or the other.
Look at a Corps and say "WOW! they spent an entire summer working their butts off to perfect that show and it is absolutely CLEAN"
Look at a Show band and say "WOW! They got that music on monday, learned it on tuesday and wednesday, practiced it on thursday and friday! That`s only 10 hours with that show! They must`ve worked their butts off. And I can sing along with the music"

Oh, and as for the movie`s accuracy ...
-We have challenges, but they`re bandwide, and do not involve choreography (sp?)
-We audition every year... everybody auditions, so upperclassmen are rating you
-There have been disagreements in the line, but our director stepped in
-We learn cadences that groove and are difficult as well ... again, no choreography
Cheap-o simple stick tricks are OK (look at that "HARD" backsticking section ... EASY, but looks cool) Cheezy vocals are good too! "Shark Bait Boo Ha Ha"
-We actually DO pay attention to intervals and style (you all know it "ONE MORE TIME")
-We actually LIKE FOOTBALL! We`re there for the team, and we`re there for the crowd...halftime is not game time and we`re OK with that. The game happens when we`re not playing. We enhance the experience and make the players feel at home.
-Other than the Football teams, there is no animosity between the lines, or even the bands. On away trips, we seek out the other drumline to talk and have fun! The auxiliaries do the same.
-There is NO WAY to get through audition week thinking you know everything, you don`t and the directors do. Learn that, and all will be well.
-There is NO WAY to get through audition week without being able to read music (usually the first time we play it, we`re rehearsing as a full band and you will be called out)
-We don`t like the movie drumline for the same reason we don`t like Wipeout ... as soon as somebody hears that you`re in the drumline, they ask about the movie. Quite annoying.
-And most importantly, we DO make fun of the movie Drumline because we all know how unrealistic the movie really is (like throwing talc powder at each other, or complaining about an easy section because it`s got backsticking)
