I have been playing snare for only 6 months and will be competing at competitions with my Scottish pipe band as soon as i get a cast off my foot...but I know I wouldnt have been where I am without one of the best pipe snare dummer`s in the world..needless to say, drumming`s my fav thing to do! I will be trying out for snare at my highschool next yr (i didnt play this yr b/c of my skrewed ankle and also b/c my brother plays bass--he doesnt want me on the line so i respect it)..(but his friends want me to play!!) anyways..i cant wait so i tell anyone just go for it..u wont regret it!

I`ve been on the bassline for two years when I was in middle school, and then I was going to be on quads for marching band as a freshman, but I wasn`t quite ready for fall season. But I will be totally ready for winter season. And I just found out the other day that I`ll be the first girl ever to get on quads at my highschool. Kind of scary!

My school never had a marching band :-(
But i joined a drill team about a 3 years ago....I started out on bass but then they put me on the trips a week later because they had no one to play em. A year later I started playing the quints n im still playing em to this day.
At first it was crazy cuz all the guys would try to battle me on the trips n i got embarrased all the time lol..
But now since i been playing for a while ma`f*ckas kno

Girl drummers rule. Ima guy and I think its cool when girls drum. There needs to be more girl drummers. I just don`t like it when the girls get special treatment. We had this one girl on tenors and she got a stand while we used carriers because she couldnt hold them. I thought they needed to make her hold them because she cant use a stand on the field.

I am a senior at my high school and this year I am playing cymbals. I know the best key to a Drumline is the actual drums because I have played them ALL. My freshman year I played snare and was the only girl to have ever played an actually drum at my school and to be a freshman, was a big deal. But I wasn`t praised, I was picked on horribly! My sophmore year I was pushed on bass but I never liked bass at all! The other guys said that I would never pick up quads becuase they were too difficult for a girl! That made me mad and I learned then and played then my junior year and now I am entering my senior year playing cymbals; cymbals to me are more fun and let me get into the mood! I am now drum captain and proud. I was first: girl tenor, girl snare, first freshman snare, and now first girl captain. I am encourages all girls to don`t listen to people when they say you can`t play drums because if I can prove them wrong, you can!

As an update....I first commented in the this forum during January (see Sarah Jan. 07, 2007) when I had just begun taking lessons. Just to let you know, I`ve practiced countless hours since then and for payoff, I beat-out two veterans in the drumline this season to play snare. So far, I love everything about the drumming world. I can`t believe I waited this long to get involved! PS....this proves that girls CAN be great drummers too!!!

my high school just started competing in the ADLA in so cal and we rocked this year. we went from the lowest division `C` to the `A` division. the only thing higher than a is open and world. but any ways i was disappointed to see that girls were only going out for acting and colorguard but i saw a really good female snare drummer that plays for my friend`s school and a really good female tenor (she was section leader over this tall guy who couldnt play scrapes for crap)
n e ways i wouldnt mind being in an all girls drumline with me being the only guy

I think girl drummers are sometimes the best, cause i know some kick ass ones. Also iv been playin tenors (yes quads or quints) since i was about 7 cause my parents and my family are all drummers. (im in 9th grade rite now and am 15 so i know a thing or two about em. So if any body wants to talk about them just tell me.

Hey if you want to work on improving tenor teqnique you might want to try one of several things:
1) Set up a mirrior in front of werever you practice and view your self and make adjustment while your playing.
2) Play with your back against the wall, if your elbows keep hitting the wall your brining them too far back.
3) PRACTICE. Remember, it takes up to 2000 strokes to fix a problem.
4) Always start by warming up. ALWAYS start by playing some eights, and also a double beat excercise and ALSO a triplet excersize. If you cannot play your warmups PERFECTLY don`t expect anything else to sound good.
