HEY! I`m a girl drummer too...i`m on first year at my high school drum line...i started seventh grade and it came pretty naturally....i didn`t try out for snare because in my school there is no way that any freshman will ever make snare and i know i have a lot more work to do...i was the only freshman to automatically make it to the bass drum line after first tryouts and now i play first drum (which IS the like second heaviest, thank you very much (cuz of all the metal on it)) i just got finished with band camp 2 weeks ago and i would happily like to announce that our show rocks....(but not so much the uniform, lol)

i`ll tell you why you probaly only see girls on bass and cymbals....it`s b/c of stupid people who think girls cant handle anything bigger then that. I just got done with try-outs and i really wanted to play the tenors. the drum teachers told i was the best but i couldnt play them b/c "they are too heavy" !!!!!!!!! so now i am stuck on baby bass and I am very ticked off!!!! Shouldnt you give the spot to the better player no matter what sex they are? oh yeah, 1 of the people who beat me out is a boy who is smaller than me. I am very frustrated but i am determined to prove my teachers wrong.
oh yeah i am a freshman.... Anna

ya, I`m the only girl snare drummer on my high school line. There are 6 snares and I`d say I`m probably the 3rd best and our drumline is pretty decent for high school. anyway, we have beat everyone we`ve drummed off against so far. I get picked on a lot for stuff I play wrong and being a girl sometimes but it only makes me want to get that much better so no one will be able to get me for anything and so I`ll be better than the guys. It is kinda annoying though to get disrespected for being a girl, cuz ya there are a lot of sucky ones out there but there are a lot of sucky guys too. I`m only really just starting to understand the real aspects of drumming, there is one kid who now teaches our drumline but hes an alumni and he is absolutely amazing, the best drummer I have ever met and he still is not perfect. It is such an art and it is absolutely impossible for anyone(girl or guy) to be a "perfect" drummer.

Hi, I am 14 year old girl and a freshman, and I have been playing drums since fourth grade, so that is like 6 years. I play on my set, and I played in all my schools bands, and in my church band. I play cymbals in our marching band now, and I am mad because I want to play snare, but there was no chance this year. Hopefully next or for sure my junior year, I`ll play snare. Everone will be moving up somewhere in the drumline or graduating. One girl who plays snare now is an senior and has been playing since her freshman year, another girl, plays base, and another plays cymbals. I am in love with the snare and playing it. For all girls who play drums, you all rock, and dont stop drummin!

O_O Our tenor girl is FREAKING SWEET. I swear she`s like... god of quint players. picked up both our cadences, all 4 show tunes and half the stands crap within 2 days of drumline camp... O_O Our bass girl is pretty good... Snare girl kinda sucks tho... I mean shes good at playing it once she has it down, but she loses tempo easily and whatnot.. (AND BD GAVE HER THE TAP-OFFS AND WHATNOT!!! ARRRRRG! lol </rant> Stick with it. (no pun intended) I am a 14 yr old male.. Freshman... And I`ve gotten sh!t about being in band for years, but I don`t care. I love doing it, drumming is my... (dun dun dun) anti drug. LOL seriously, it`s cool. For every hater there`s 4 more fans. Remember that. People pick on the line here but I`ve seen at least 4 people kick/punch/slap/swear at the haters here. One mention of `drumline su-` and theyre getting pounded on. We`re loved ^_^ Later on.

Matt

I made tenor my first year of playing drums period. They seem hard, but for some reason they are easier than walking and talking at the same time.

I forgot to mention I am 14 years old, a male and I`m now a freshman. I have only been playing drums for 2 years, but they are SUPER easy. All kinds, not just the marching ones.
