My brother plays drumset in our basement and it is way too loud. Is there a cheap and effective way to reduce the volume? Our basement is unfinished. Any help would be greatly appreciated

try getting a sound shield. they are fairly expensive but worth it if its loud. If you can`t afford that, get a pair of drumsticks and drum foam. wrap the the foam on the sticks (4 pieces) and press it. that should take care of the playing, although it will impair him from doing rolls and such. tell him it can build up his wrists!

To reduce the overall sound of your group in your basement, try tacking up some foam blocks on the wall. The main offender in the volume (next to the drums) is the reverberation on the unfinished walls. The foam would greatly decreace the reverb and quiet it down. You could purchase a set of foam blocks (32 1"x1") for under 90 dollars, or try to find some noncomercially sold ones from packaging for a lot less. It`s worth a shot.
