That isn`t really true. It really depends on the person and their personal style they are playing. If you listen to some of the famous jazz pieces like Take Five, you could hear that the vibrato starts right when the note is articulated. Even in classical, sometimes the vibrato happens right away, sometimes its delayed. It really depends on the person. However, I`d just like to point out that jazz vibrato is different that classical vibrato. In jazz, usually, when the note is first articulated, the vibrato is slow, then gets faster then slow again. Thats what makes a good jazz vibrato different then a classical. A classical is normally just straight with maybe a crescendo (mind my spelling). Still, it depends on the person that is playing.

Yeah, I guess that`s true. It`s just that all of the sax players that I`ve heard tend to use vibrato in this way. Take Five is a great piece, maybe I should listen to it again...
