If you play mostly jazz, then I`d recommend a Vandoren V16 with A6 face opening, or an equivalent Otto Link.
If you`re playing classical, then get a Selmer S90.
You may also want to experiment a bit. The first mouthpiece you try is not always the best one (even though it happened to work for me).

What kind of sound do you want? Before you dump what is arguably one of the best mouthpieces ever (I`m assuming you have a 6M), try changing ligatures or reeds. Phil Woods plays on an old New York Meyer 5M. I think he`s the best Alto Man alive today. Those pieces sell for between $500-$1000. If you don`t like the sound, then switch. But ask yourself what you are trying to get to first. An old Link slant lig is great, but pricey. I have to agree with the above post as well. Vandoren makes some good stuff these days. It all comes down to what you are trying to achieve, though.
