Yes, I got a chance to borrow one from my school, and at first foolishly didn`t use the neckstrap and thumb turned all black and blue and hurt after playing. But it`s fine if you use the neckstrap.

only wusses use a neckstrap for soprano, just kidding, use a neckstrap. though if you use a neckstrap for a clarinet, then you are not only a wuss but a dingus.

One of my friends is doing his Master`s in music at university and he uses a neckstrap for his clarinet. I`ve tried one, and while I don`t usually use them, they do allow your fingers to have a great deal more freedom of movement because they aren`t holding up the instrument.

yeah you use a neckstrap I have a lovely squishy black one . To get the low notes on a soprano is not really that hard if you play any of the other saxes, they are easier than any of the others. I don`t know how to explain how to do it, but really, I just blow and they come out.

I have never used my neckstrap for my soprano. However, I have noticed that I have really strong thumbs since getting the sop.

The lower notes require air to be pushed more from the diaphragm and not the lungs. A looser bite on the mouthpiece helps and slowing down the air speed. However, this could also lead to the lower notes coming out flat. It takes practice, but I`m sure you`ll get it soon!
Good Luck!
