Well, I`m a student. I really wish I had the money to get a Tenor Saxophone, possibly a Yanagisawa or something of that sort.
I was curious if anyone knows some good places online or in-real life that work well with financing and such.

Saxquest.com, Worldwidesax.com, saxalley.com, vintagesax.com, and eBay are all great places online for saxophones. Saxquest has a gorgeous chu berry for sale, a couple of top hat & canes, a couple of 10M`s, and 2 really, really, really nice super 20`s. I don`t play tenor but these, along with the mark vi`s, are reputed to be some of the best playing models ever made. Their alto equivalents are absolutely superb!!!!

Frederic H. Weiner on long island is great as well and so it Roberto`s Woodwinds in Manhattan. Both of these stores specialize in saxophones. If you live near New Orleans, definitely go to Steve Goodson Woodwinds. Steve is probably one of the most knowledgeable saxophone people in the country, and he`ll hook you up with a great horn.

Most of the new Yanagisawas, Keilwerths, and Selmers are dreadfully overpriced. If you absolutely must get a new horn, go for a yamaha custom. These are of the same quality for about 1,000 dollars less. However, your best bet would be to get a vintage(old) horn. They cost much less but play much much better IMHO. Some models to look for:
Conn 10M or Transitional
Conn Chu Berry
King Super 20
H. Couf Superba I
SML(Strasser-Marigaux-Lemaire) Rev. D or Gold Medal I
Buescher 400
These are all high-quality instruments with legendary reputations for their unbelievable sound, that can be found at great prices. They can usually be found for between 1500(SML) and 3000(400 top hat). The Super 20 models with silver necks and bells will command almost 4000, but the regular ones, which sound the same, are sold for about 2000. Vintage Selmers are great too, but a good one will cost you $4000-$10,000.
I was in your same position a few months ago and i got a great deal on a silver King Super 20 alto for only $1400.
If you don`t find anything at the sites i recommended earlier, try posting a wanted ad at saxquest or at saxontheweb.net . People are always ready to sell vintage tenors.

Heh, it seems all my saxes are pretty much poop now. I still have all my Tenor Saxophones (3 to be exact) from 6th Grade and now. I`m not in band, though, at a time I was and I hated it. Now I just play for fun, and play new-school Jazz with friends.
I`d hate to sell them really, because they`re all still in good condition. A few scratches here and there. But I was curious how much would they go for?

What are the models of the saxes you have? If they`re name-brand student models and the pads are in good condition, in a private sale you could probably get 400-600 for each of them. The money you get from them could cover most of the cost of a vintage pro tenor, that is, if you decide to get one.
