I`m currently ending my 2nd year of band, and I`ve played a Yamaha Tenor Sax, and an Alto for a month or two, borrowed from my school. I`m going into highschool, and am dead set on becoming a band teacher later on. Since I`ve played tenor for both my years, I want to try something else in the sax family, mainly thinking on a Soprano, and I`m wanting to get one of my own.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to which brand is better for Soprano Sax? Any makers that I should stay away from? Anyone know of a seller on eBay that sells good sopranos for cheap prices?

I`ve heard great things about Monique, and have found a very nice soprano made by Monique on eBay for a great price, but I`m a little wary, because the best i`ve heard were all about Yamaha, Yanagisawa (i know i spelled that wrong) and Selmer.

Personally....I didn`t want to spend a mint on a soprano, but I wanted a damn good horn for the money that I spent. I want to recommend the LA Sax Burnished Brass soprano. This is a sleeper, folks. The intonation and projection is unreal. I spent a mint on my Alto and Tenor as those are my primary horns (Guardalas). I`m here to tell you, put an Otto Link STM with an Olegature on it and you will find heaven. The Link piece is great because the chamber is larger than most and that helps with the intonation woes that so many who try to play soprano have. You can get these horns for a fraction of what you would pay for a Yamaha or a Selmer.
I wish I could show you a picture, but I don`t have one handy. It`s breath-taking. And has the tone to match. If you`re into high notes, my horn has the High G key as well. This note comes out in tune at ppp!!! It also comes with two necks.
Give Jerry at Orpheus Music a call (800-821-9448) Tell him Mike Spurlock referred you. They are the nationwide distributor for LA Sax. He can answer all of your questions.
Just so you know......I do not work for these people. I do buy my horns from them and they really treat their clients well. I live in San Antonio, Texas, so it`s really convenient.
Before I answer anything on Tenor, I need to know what you can afford to spend.
Thanks for your time.
Mike

Ah I live in japan, so 800 numbers and 1800 numbers are really expensive, but I`m gonna start looking for these LA Links. Thanks
I`ve got about 1100 to spend this summer on saxes and was hoping to get a soprano for about 400 (about the same price as the good ones on ebay) and about 600 on a tenor, but I`m willing to pay about 1000 for a tenor, seeing as they go for higher prices. I`m also trying to get book on the soprano, to learn to play it, and gig bags, but those two can wait till i get the horns.

Nononononononono. It`s not LA Link. If you go around asking people for them, they`ll look at you like you have six heads. The saxophone is by the company LA Sax. The mouthpiece is an Otto Link Super Tone Master. The ligature is an Olegature, by Oleg Products.

You actually spelled Yanagisawa right!
The BandNow saxes are basically built just to get younger students through a year or two before they quit. They appeal mostly to students with parents who are looking to save money and have no idea about musical equipment.

What do you guys think about Monique saxophones? I have found many Moniques that are within my price rang and they`re very pretty. Would a Monique be a smart choice?

Soprano - go for the curved Elkhart 300. It`s cheap but blows really well!

Actually, don`t go for the curved soprano saxes because my private teacher(a pro) said they have horrible intonation.Good Luck!
