Alright, as promised I`m returning to you to talk about my new baby - the YAS-82z. Wow is this an awesome horn! For one thing, it`s just flat out gorgeous with it`s shiny black body and gold keys and golden flower engraving on the bell.

Next, the tone is out of this world from what I was coming from. It took me a good two weeks to fully get adjusted (I was having trouble hearing differences) and I took it to my old band director, and everyone agrees that it was a great purchase. As I`ve said, I haven`t delved into the jazz world, but I can understand why you all said it was a jazz horn because even with my C* mouthpiece, it has SO much power. The softs are softer and the louds are louder, and the transition from low range to high is ever so smooth. I was actually having problems with my upper octave jumping out because it comes out so easy whereas I was used to pushing it out. I haven`t tried this yet, but it feels like I could jump from low Bb to high F# with simply moving my fingers.

I do have a question to ask, though. I was having some pretty akward pitch problems when I went to play for my band director. He was actually going to recommend that I send it back and get a new one of the same model, but then we tried something... I was playing probably mid way on the mouthpiece, and he said to take in more mouthpiece up to where the reed starts seperating (at the fulcrum?) I did that, and almost instantly every note hit 0 on the tuner (except those natural, evil sax notes, and even those weren`t bad at all). Does this make sense to you all? My former sax teacher (the one who was a genious but a horrible teacher) wanted me to play with so little mouthpiece I thought my teeth were going to fall off.. so I was a tad confused.

I haven`t played many other professional saxophones to compare, but I can say that for price and what you`re buying, you can`t go wrong with the YAS-82z!

hey, it works, so its all cool, right? (the mouthpiece thing) I have a C* with my mark vi, and its fine. Probably has to do with the facings and stuff with the necks and all. Try using a different mouthpiece (just borrow a freinds or something) to see if that changes a lot.

question though. the yas-82z is a jazz horn, and so is the yas-62ii or somehting like that. what are the differences?

other than that, congradulations on the sax.

Hmm, I actually remember reading some people say that they didn`t like the neck that came with it, but I don`t know enough about it to know if that makes a big difference in pitch and stuff.

Also, someone else will have to really answer this, but the classical music it can make is beautiful (well.... with me playing, I hope it is And I don`t really know jazz, but what I`ve heard of jazz I can feel it waiting to be let loose whenever I play. Hope that helps a little...

I am wishing I would have been able to afford an 82Z. I hae been playing since 6th grade, I wish now be going into 12th grade. I have been in jazz band and marching band every year, and making it into the highest HS band last year, I decided it was time for a new baby. I had a Selmer student model, 225 or 325 I forgot what it is, its the most common Selmer student model. I purchased a Yamaha 62 Series 2 last November, and I love it, but the things I have heard about the 82Z, I can`t believe I didn`t go with it. I love mine though, the range is so much better, altissimo is so easy, you can get through every note in an instant and without a flinch, Yamaha beats Selmer in that catergory without a fight. Then the 875EX comes out, just like technology, you could never keep up. The only thing is, I prefer the Yamaha 4C mouthpiece that came with it over my C* that I paid $80 for last year, it is really hard to tune on it. Mindme asking how much you paid for the 82Z? I got my 62II for $1300, over half below the list price of $3000, the business my school goes through gives great deals on everything, and usually around 50% off list price of all instruments if not more, he never had a 82Z to try though, or I sure I WOULD have that now instead of my 62II

Sorry for the late reply; I`ve been at a different house and couldnt` remember the URL for this forum..

I bought it from a company online that I was told did good business, www.wwbw.com, and they do financing through a bank. I think the sax with black was about $2,400. They had a deal of 1 year with no interest, then after the first bill came I read the fine print and you still get the interest, and if you don`t pay the sax off in a year all of it carries over. This just means that I have a lot of paying to do in one year, hehe.

Still love the saxophone, I think it was well worth it =)

Reeds? Reeds? I though those are plants in the Amazon that the natives eat with beans. I love saxophones. I was watching the band at the high school I teach at playing and they sounded really good. They played, "Salute to America`s Finest" It was so beautiful. HAve any of you heard that song before???????
