What up everbody.
I am a 8th grader going, but school is almost over who plays the sax and the clarinet. It is pain in the butt because next year I will be 1st chair sax in jazz band and 1st chair clarinet in advanced band.
My School has 4 bands
Begining
Intermediate
Advanced
Jazz

Who else here plays the clarinet and sax

I`m in 7th grade and i play sax and clarinet too, though i would have to say my favorite would be the clarinet.Sax is cool but you can do jazz, symphonic, classical and orchestral on clarinet.Trust me, i`ts alot easier to play orchestral music on clarinet, you probobly already knew that.

I`m going on 5th grade and i luv the sax. I think that you should follow your heart and if you would like to play both! But if you play both, you`ll have to memorize alot of notes. So I what i would do is stick with the instrument you already play.

I believe that playing wo instr. is great. I also play the clarinet and alto sax. Most people don`t realize that the sax was invented by a clarinet player and both can play similar types of music. (Just about any type)

And for those of you that think remembering two fingurings is hard just remember that by halfway through your first yr. you should have them down and get to play something your whole life.

In my band class it`s the clarintet`s against the saxs. There are like fiteenbillion clars and in my class 4 saxs why is this so? I don`t know. But Saxophnies (band teacher nick name) ROCK! LONG LIVE THE SAXOPHONE! YAH :}

Hi i am a tenth grader right now and i play clarinet(7 years) and sax (1 year). i am 1st chair in the advanced band and am planning on joining jazz band next year and i find both of them to be alot of fun. if you`re playing both instruments because you really like both, then i think it`s a great idea, and you will probably have no qualms about spending the extra time practicing. let me tell you it is well worth it and you will end up having a lot of fun should you choose to continue both instruments. good luck!

i am in 9th grade, (almost 10th ) and i play both clarinet and tenor sax. but
my love is the clarinet. im first chair clarinet in freshmen band, i play clarinet in marching band. im auditioning to be in the class AA band (wind symphony) in our school next year. (auditions are coming up in 3 weeks )

but i also enjoy playing sax. i play tenor in jazz band but i also play alto when someone lets me play theirs it is sooo easy to switch from clarinet to sax.... although having concert band last period of the day with clarinet, then having jazz right after, its so hard cuz the tenor embuchure (sp?) is so much looser and more relaxed

anyway, id never switch to tenor for concert band, clarinet is too much fun

I agree but I`m trying to learn to play the trumpet coz I strongly believe that this is much cooler than playing either sax and clarinet.

Clarinets are much cheaper to get into than a sax. So, there are usually more clarinets than saxes. Plus, alot of teachers put students on clarinets first before they an switch to sax. It`s cheaper to get into and parents don`t like to spend a ton of money on a good student level sax.

The only people who are full of "doo doo" here are the immature 12 year olds who have just learned to play the (insert instrument), and who still think it is cool to poke fun at the other ones. Grow up, kids.

I don`t play the clarinet, but I still agree that it, like all the other woodwinds/brass instruments, has a beautiful sound in skilled hands. I didn`t learn to play it because it didn`t suit me. Not because I`m not good enough to play it, or because the clarinet is too cool for me, or whatever.

You youngins can think whatever you want, but once you get into the professional world, those opinions become rather irrelevant, and other musicans will look down upon you for thinking that way.
