Yeah, they are most likely made by other sections who are jealous of how good the sax is

the david guy is a famous sax player. i`ll agree that the jokes were created by people who play other instruments. they are just jelous that they can`t play the sexiest instrument in the band.

Haha, that`s so true!!....Yes!! I was hoping I`d find something good in those sax jokes so I could take them to my bend sax people but no, I guess not. Drug jokes aren`t funny at all, especially for a precious saxes!!

Here`s an idea, guys. If you just take the jokes for what they are, and don`t completely blow them out of proportion, then you might actually appreciate them, and find them funny. The thing about band jokes is that they aren`t directed towards specific instruments. For example, you could take any viola joke and make it into a sax joke. I`ll give you an example. "Viola players spend half their time tuning, and the other half playing out of tune." Use your imagination.

If you have confidence in your own musicianship, and are focused on improving it, then these jokes really shouldn`t mean anything to you. I know, for example, that a sax section can play in tune. I have heard very good sax quintets, and even saxophone choirs play beautiful-sounding music. I don`t take sax jokes very seriously because I know this fact. I also don`t take them seriously simply because they`re JOKES! A good joke is not supposed to be taken seriously!

Yes, there is some truth to these jokes, otherwise there wouldn`t be stereotypes against the instruments. For example, Charlie Parker was a notorious drug user. The jazz era was full of drug-using musicians, and that`s where the jokes associating sax players with drugs came from. For the most part, it`s not true anymore, because musicians have adopted a cleaner attitude towards the music. However, people make jokes like these purely for nostalgia, and to poke fun at stereotypes.

Maybe you guys should do a little research before you go off on little immature rants about band jokes. Using bad grammar does not make you look smart, either. There`s a whole world out there outside of junior high school - poke your heads outside the window.

BTW, let me set something else straight, here. I know David Ambrogio relatively well. He is the administrator of the forum of the saxes at: http://forumofthesaxes.myfreeforum.org/, and while he sounds really good on the sax, he is not that famous. Him and I are still in high school, and that`s not a lot of time to build up a reputation.

I hope that you kids learned something today.

Iamsaxman,

I can see how you might have associated this Dave with Dave Brubeck, but Dave Brubeck isn`t a saxophonist, he`s a pianist. The saxophonist who played in his quartet went by the name of Paul Desmond. I don`t know where you might have thought that up, because an 80 year old pianist would not be wasting his time on a site like this.

Im in high school and i must say, being stoned makes you a better player. Me and my other sax buddys always go to marching band stoned, and we get great comments from the director. So, get stoned, and then play. youll be amazed.

David is David Sanbourn, who plays the alto usually, and is a very famous saxophonist.
You people obviously don`t listen to sax music.
