Hi everyone! I play the oboe in concert band and now I need another instrument for marching band. I heard that Soprano Sax and Oboe have some of the same fingerings. Is it easy to play? I have to learn how to play another instrument before marching band (about 1 and a half years) or I`m stuck with Marimba. Any help?

Well I play Tenor and Soprano Sax, because the two have exactly the same fingering, so I don`t think they`re the same. But I advise starting on the Sax

And when I said I don`t think they`re the same I was referring to the Sorpano and Oboe.

Hey, oboe fingering and sop sax are almost the same except for higher notes. Playing oboe as your first instrument you might have technical difficulty switching to a soprano sax with the oboe being such a specialist instrument, your embouchure might be dodgey for a few weeks but if you brake it in slowly and learn to have a flexible embouchure you shouldn`t have much trouble although i would suggest maybe starting on Alto instead just to get used to saxophones in general first. Good Luck!!!
