Hello there,

I am hoping to start playing the alto saxophone sometime soon. I don`t have a very large budget, I think my maximum would have to be about 500$ (Canadian). What kind of instrument would you recoment?

(I play oboe and flute at the moment, if that matters)

Thanks!

Hmm.. See if you can find a Yamaha YAS-23 used. Great horn for beginners, and can be had for a reasonable cost that should fall into your price range. Other choices if you can find them would be Vito and Bundy.

I would pick the bundy and yamaha over the vito if at all possible. Vitos just can`t play that well.

Sorry Lera Flute is in the key of C, Tenor Sax is in the key of Bb, you might be thinking of clarinet which is in Bb also.

Look for a YTS-23 Student Yamaha, like the others mentioned in this thread. It is one of the best student models you can buy.

Good Luck
CJ

If you have a Bb flat flute you then have a tenor flute which are extremely rare, and you are extremely lucky to have one since they don`t make them anymore. For the rest of us we would normally get one in the key of C.
