Heres the scoop. I got my hands on a Selmer New york C-melody. It`s been overhauled and restored, though some of the tarnish won`t come off and it`s about time for another ittle (it`s lost its shine a bit) polish maybe. As with all C-melodys, it`s "different" to play, but very playable. It can be very loud, and has a sweet tone. I use a tenor mouthpiece with it, a morgan-belger (spelling is wrong on that i belive) which i can`t remember the facings or anything off the top of my head, if anyones interested i`ll tell ya, but i think i want to keep the mouthpiece.
Now, I am a advancing student who loves sax and who owns 3 altos, a soprano, and the C-melody. I love to collect these vintage horns, but honestly, for my current situation, another soprano or a tenor would be much more practicle for me to have. Maybe in the future i`ll have the $ to collect horns, but my thoughts are that i would benifit from switching out the C-melody for a intermediete sop or tenor.
another thought; C-melodys are rarly used anymore, but since they are not made, is thier value going to continue to rise, and should i therefore wait to sell it.
If anyone has thoughts or is interested, please post or email me. thanks
