Recently I bought a few play along with the CD books but my sax is really out of tune with them. My teacher doesn`t know what to do as she plays flute and she just helps me with timing etc on sax. I`ve tried pulling bits out and pushing them in but nothing seems to work :P can anybody help?

can you tell if you are flat or sharp? Or maybe something is wrong with the sax. Chances are most likely its your mouth. try to find out if ur lat or sharp, then post, and then i can help.

On my tuner it says most of my notes are sharp, and when I play a G it comes up as an A on the tuner?

1. You are very flat. Try pushing in the mouthpiece. The tuner should read a Bb when a G is played on alto.
2. Are you sure that they are ALTO saxophone playalong books? That could be why you are so out of tune.

If the notes are coming out to high pitched you are sharp. push everything in and tighten up your lips.

Whoa stop there my friend. It is more likely your embouchure. Try this: take the mouthpiece away from the horn and blow into it, an Alto sax should have a concert A sound a Tenor will have a concer G sound (that is in concert key not sax key) more that likely you are too tight. This will give you an idea of how tight and/or loose your embouchoure is suppose to be. Even in college I still do this every once in awhile to check myself. If that does not help with your problem, others on this thread already gave you the other info. Before you push or pull that mouthpiece make sure your embouchoure is correct.

Keep playing
CJ

I am having a similar problem with my tenor. I play alto and tenor. When I play my alto my pitch is fine, however when I go over to my tenor I am horribly flat, one semitone to be exact. I thought it might be me, so I borrowed a tenor from a friend. When I played it, the sound was fine, close to perfect. I have tried moving the mouthpiece around, changing reeds and changing moutpieces but nothing seems to work. Does anybody know an easy way to fix this without going to get the sax repaired?
