Lera how old are you? Oh and lera is right about sax and flute fingerings being similar, I picked up sax really quickly because of that, but i gave it up just as fast because it kept on splitting my lip... ouch not fun! no but seriously I want to know how old you are...

Splitting your lip?? Wow, you must have been applying far too much pressure on your reed.

breaking reeds with the power of your breath? i think i may have read that wrong. and splinters in your lips is a bummer, but i'm not sure i understand how that happens. did you make a reed yourself by shaving down a tree? hehe... i'm sorry. but seriously, in general reference to your posts, please quit with all of this nonsense. i'm sure you can find a new computer for ten bucks and all, but you should understand that someone who's only played for one year is no good at all. that's not to put down anyone. it takes time to even be proficient with the instrument. and after only one year, my ass you can play the soprano well. come now, darling, use some common sense. and if you're going to tell us all a grand story, make it something less whimsical. or just try posting less often.

Well i dont think its fair to say NO ONE can be good after a year, im a sophmore and have only been playin sax for a year and am first in my state :D. but im kinda psycho and practice farrrr more than most kids my age. Not to be confrontational, i just wanted to let you know it IS possible to be good after a year. but lera, youre still full of crap.

Rex, it is impossible to be really good after one year. I'm sorry and i'm not trying to talk bad about you or anything but it's not possible. I'm sure you're a solid player but you'll understand what I mean when you get older and get to college.

Roman, I almost shot coffee out of my nose when I read the comment about carving the reed herself. You know you're using high quality reeds when you get flippin splinters in your lips.

Good is all relative. You can be good, compared to other people in your surroundings, but to say you play at a professional level is a whole different story. I used to consider myself good when I was in high school, I recieved the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, my head got all big, and then I went to college, and just like that I realized how bad I really was.
I do wish however I had the lung capacity to break reeds with my breath. I could get a job in the circus, or working with the Big Bad Wolf.

We can tell them this but they will just have to grow up themselves. They are better than the other few saxes in their local band so they think they're good. They have nothing else to compare their ability to. Like cj said, when you get to college, it's a whole new ballgame.
