I have being playing for 4 months now after playing the oboe for about 3 years.

High c & c# ok, D not quite say 70% getting the note
D# 10% of the time if that E hey I have play that note about 5 times.

I have tried reeds from 1.5 to 3 currently using Rico plastic coated reed 2 which very nice to use.

Help Many thanks Nicholas

Do you have a teacher? It's very hard to explain the proper embouchure on the internet. By the way, you're using crappy reeds.

The reeds aren't necesarly bad, but non coated reeds may help things till you get the feel of it. And your not alone, those highnotes are a pain to get down

Thanks guys

1 No I don't have a teacher yet
2 I have being using the palm keys as per fingering charts
3 I have tried wood reeds full plastic reeds and the coated ones too.

I live in south Queensland Australia and the weather humidity can be high thus plastic over wood.

Other problem is finding music shops that stock soprano sax reeds let alone one at the right strength.

Does any one know what reeds sing at the top end of the soprano sax range, or will changing the mouth piece help. I am using the standard flat mouth piece not the round type like the clarinet.

Many Thanks
