How are the gold mouthpieces, I've heard mixed reviews and just thought I would seek better opinion!

A guy in my big band had a gold mouthpiece, but our leader told him that his sound wasn't "big" enough. I think it all depends on your own personal taste and ability - and what you want it for aswell

It'd be gold plated probably, but metal mouthpieces are for being bright, loud and obnoxious, perfect for tenors, but they tend to be to bright on altos, and I havn't tried them on sops or baris. If you have a metal one and your director says its not "big" enough, either it's really bad one or your director is tone deaf.

A metal mp on soprano is a dangerous thing. Is it needed at all? I simply cannot imagine a kid that's been playing one year even playing soprano much less with a metal mouthpiece. That's gonna be... interesting.

What?? You carried your act a little too far in that post and actually made it complete jibberish.

What did you just say?

eh, it could be interesting, but whatever works, right? personly, I havn't noticed much of a difficulty difference between metal and plastic mouthpieces. The feels a bit different, but it's nothing major.

It would be interesting if there acually was a mp made of gold. They are simply gold plated to some extent. If ur gonna pay $400.00+ you might want it to be heavy gold plated. Most, if not all Mmp's sound brighter than what most players are used to. Its always fun popping on a really bright mouthpiece after playing a C* or something mellow. I play A jody jazz Alto DV and I love it for it's brightness and sound. You can play almost any style of music.. its what you make it
